Classical guitar lessons begin with learning how to read music, while developing good posture and technique on the instrument using finger-style plucking. Over time, we will work on building a repertoire of classical performance pieces, to be shaped with great musicality. Classical guitar is a terrific way to build good technique on the instrument, drawing from the hundreds of years of knowledge in the subject.
Music has played a big role in my life ever since I was 4 and heard The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night." From that point on, I committed myself towards a life in music, soon after beginning lessons on classical guitar. Through high school I studied classical and jazz guitar at Philadelphia's esteemed Settlement Music School, and I subsequently attended New York University as a jazz studies major in both guitar and composition for a bachelors and masters degree. As a teacher, I love to pair my academic knowledge of music with my decades of experience listening to and playing popular music ranging from rock and funk to bluegrass and hip hop. I've performed in settings ranging from jazz clubs in Italy, to theater in New York, and rock clubs in Philadelphia. In my lessons I like to bring
I studied classical for two years as an undergraduate student.
I started playing guitar seriously at the age of 12 and have been a guitar teacher for 22 years. My first influences were rock and metal. In my later teens, I became very interested in other music genres such as jazz, fusion and classical. I began my formal music education as a Classical Guitar performance major, ultimately obtaining a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music. The road I have taken with music has been paved with many unexpected twists and turns. Throughout my many years of learning and making new discoveries, I have now arrived at a point where I am able to productively incorporate knowledge from various experiences with music and education into my own creativity and teaching. I never expect to stop learning or ...
I have taught all levels, using the methods of Giuliani, Carcassi and Sor. Also I encourage my students to develop a basic repertoire for performance, a knowledge of theory and fundamentals.
New York city based guitarist and composer Juan C. immigrated to Miami, Florida at age 21. His work speaks a unique language that blends elements from his early musical experiences in Colombia, as a member of various folk, rock (metal ) ensembles, and his studies in East Asian music fueled by travels and interaction with musicians and artists in China and Japan. Juan’s music has been performed throughout South America, the United States and Asia. Although Juan cannot return to his native Colombia, his string duet, “Famous Librarians” (commissioned by Olivia de Prato and Victor Lowrie, was premiered at the Medellín Conservatory of Music.) His piece for electric bass and keyboard, “Glue Pain Ghost,” a collaboration with video artist, Jane Hsu, was invited to a world premiere at ...
I studied classical guitar at the University of Central Florida, performing solo and ensemble repertoire. I can teach proper technique with both hands, music notation, sight reading, harmonic theory, and how to realize "orchestral" compositions. From Sor to Villa-Lobos and everything in between!
I studied music at UCF (Orlando), focusing on classical and jazz guitar, but I also have years of experience playing rock, blues, folk, hip-hop, and musical theater on both guitar and drums. I have been teaching guitar, drums, and piano for about eight years to students of all ages. Music is what I'm passionate about and it's what I enjoy. I want to inspire that same passion into the hearts and minds of others. *** Lesson Details *** I am a laid-back teacher, fun, and I focus on the needs, abilities, and ambitions of the student. In turn, students must realize that learning an instrument takes a lot of work and dedication. One can't expect to learn very much if s/he only practices or thinks about the instrument during the lesson. If the student is willing to put some time into ...
I can help you improve your classical guitar skills.
I have been teaching guitar for more than 10 years. I do have great experience teaching kids in the New York area. Nonetheless, I have taught students with different ages (6 to 60!) and with opposite tastes and styles of music. That made me aware of the many possibilities and directions one can take. My experience taught me to adapt to the student´s goals while being able to communicate the formal methods or strategies that define the understanding of music as a whole. My goal is to ensure the student has a general sense of musicality and at the same is able to gather the right tools to learn and play the music she/he likes. I have a bachelor´s degree from Berklee College of Music in Guitar Performance and a Master´s Degree from New England Conservatory in Jazz Performance. I have ...
The Classical Guitar is perhaps the most technically demanding form of guitar. Find out which finger strokes work best in different playing situations and expand your repertoire with Roberto.
Roberto M. has had many influences throughout his relationship with music. From the beauty of classical repertoire to modern jazz, Roberto can shed insight on the inner workings of music as well as the artistic sentiments many musicians and listeners share. The patience and attention he exudes, to students, is inspiring to experience. The progress of advancing musicians is riddled with confusion, but also with an enriched auditory perspective not shared by many non-musicians. This perspective augments enjoyment of all honest music and of other forms of art. There is no best in this world. Any shortcomings beginners and even seasoned professionals think they may have turn out to be illusory and irrelevant to the nature of what they do. Whatever the reason one decides to pursue a deeper ...
