I basically focus on fundamental skills. Trumpet is a tough instrument to play: it only has three keys but has to play a wide register like other instruments. It is common for students to get bored with playing basic etudes, therefore I would award them by teaching pop songs or whatever pieces they like for meeting the week’s progress. I normally teach classical trumpet, marching trumpet and beginner’s jazz trumpet.
I am a trumpet instructor with global experience and an approach to learning that is encompassing and fun for all ages. I was born in Taiwan and have studied in both Asia and the U.S., where I last earned my Master of Music degree from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University. Students have described me as someone who is out going, someone who is laid back and fun and someone who likes to listen and communicate with my students. I have been teaching trumpet and piano since sophomore at college, in private one-on-one lessons or as a trumpet sectional coach at elementary schools or middle schools. I believe that being an educator is about the communication and the relationship that exists between a teacher and a student. The art of being a good educator exists in the ...
I love to play the trumpet. I play it in shows almost every day and love the way that Jazz sounds coming through a horn!

I can teach the fundamental concepts of efficiently playing the trumpet to all levels. This is my primary instrument, and I feel that I have a decent amount of experience to share with you! We can focus on some basic concepts of technique as well as jazz and classical literature.
My name is Justin, and I am a musician (big surprise). I have been playing the piano for the past 17 years and the trumpet for the past 13 years. My primary emphasis is jazz improvisation, but I have a solid foundation in classical repertoire as well as the basic fundamental techniques of the trumpet and the piano. I am originally from Fresno, California, but I currently reside in the Chicago area. I completed my B.A. in Trumpet Performance at California State University, Fresno in 2011, and I most recently completed my M.M. in Jazz Studies at Northwestern University in June of 2013. I have been performing extensively as a professional musician for the past 10+ years, and I have been teaching privately for the past 5+ years. The variety of musical genres that I perform is quite versatile,
I take the students through my daily warm ups and technique exercises to give them stability on the horn.
Hello, my name is Parris F. I am a recent graduate of Columbia College Chicago, receiving my degree in Instrumental Jazz Performance. I've been playing the trumpet for 14 years and have taught lessons on and off for the past two years. Currently I am a full-time musician, splitting my time between freelance gigs around the Midwest and touring nationally with my band, The Heard. When teaching, I focus on the fundamentals of the instrument to help teach the students to "tame" their instrument. If the student is ready and interested, I also teach jazz lessons, helping the student to expand their knowledge on jazz music, history and improvisation. These lessons include teaching the students jazz standards, jazz theory behind improvisation, and transcriptions. How far the student and I go is ...
The beginning trumpet student will learn posture, embouchure, breathing, and other techniques, along with playing enjoyable repertoire.
From a young age, I was enamored with music and blessed to have parents who encouraged this passion by providing me with a variety of lessons. It is a privilege to pass on this love of music through lessons to a new generation of learners! I have a Bachelor's of Science in Music Education and Sacred Music with emphases in piano and voice from Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA, and have taken several graduate level professional development courses that have enhanced my abilities as a musician and teacher. Throughout my high school and college careers, I was involved in many musical groups, so I know the challenges that accompany the pursuit of excellence and a full schedule. This has given me an understanding of students' needs while maintaining high expectations. I am
Generally, for all beginning students I start by teaching fundamentals. I use Herbert L. Clarke - Elementary Studies for the trumpet, along with Arban's, warm-up exercises and teaching some simple music theory (like scales).
Arban's I use for all levels, since the book covers all. Clarke has other follow-up books that also cover good material for intermediate to advanced students.I use Charlier - 36 Etudes for the trumpet for students with an advanced level.
I teach improvisation for students who (want to) play jazz, along with covering the stylistics. Patterns for Jazz by Jerry Coker and Jazzconceptions by Jim Snidero, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Play-A-Longs are books that I use besides transcribing solos. I can accompany on piano too.
I am a professional musician with a great passion for teaching and passing on my knowledge. I have a Bachelors and Masters degree in Jazz performance on trumpet. I also had 6 years of (classical) piano training in my younger years, which is helpful for accompaniment and composing. My studies covered a wide range of subjects, which gave me a thorough knowledge of music arranging, music theory, jazz harmony and composition. My teaching experience dates back to 2009. Ever since I have been teaching privately, doing brass masterclasses and teaching individuals and groups at music schools.

"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
