Emmy B. Chicago, IL

I am a singer with over 12 years of performing experience. I have trained classically and in Broadway, jazz, experimental and folk styles and can help coach singers to use all the available sounds in their palette to create and interpret the music they love. I coach beginning and intermediate voice students, ages 6 and up. You can expect a lesson with a short physical and vocal warm-up and some engaging and fun risk-taking in song. I truly believe anyone can learn to sing well - that includes YOU.

About Emmy

Emmy is a brilliant teacher. Her approach towards teaching is very light handed and caring. She makes suggestions that not only solve an individual trouble spot or problem, but can be applied across multiple angles of singing. Her expertise in vocal training is abundantly evident.

I genuinely look forward to each lesson, eager to hear her feedback and input on the various pieces we are working on. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a great vocal instructor.

Very lovely person to work with and willing to work with different music styles. Lessons are fairly structured and Emmy offers good advice on improving voice control and breathing.

Really encouraging

I've been taking lessons with Emmy for less than 2 months, and can hear my improvement. She has a relaxing studio, and a patient, gentle demeanor. She's allowed me to explore and discover what areas I need to focus on correcting, then helped me learn techniques to address the issues.
She's very encouraging, and willing to work with what I have, rather than trying to force my voice into an ideal. I really enjoy my time with her, and get a lot out of it!

I started just about 3 months ago. I'm 53 and never sang before. (Mouthed the words when the nuns made the class sing in grade school). I always thought that being a singer was an instinctive talent. Now I believe that with Val's help and guidance I can become a singer. I can feel and hear my voice developing. It will take time, but I have the confidence that it can happen based upon my progress so far.

Val is all you can ask for from a teacher. He challenges you, but still supports you as you learn. It was difficult for me to step in front of someone to sing, but Val has helped me sing more freely. I have been doing lessons for half a year and look forward to improving at each one.

Supportive and Patient, Challenging and Fun!

In just the few months I have been taking lessons with Val, my voice has opened up to a whole other level. His exercises are challenging and, yes, some of his instructions make me giggle, but they work! He challenges me to explore just above my comfort zone and is patient and supportive. I am discovering new areas of my vocal chords and mouth I didn't even know existed, and I can tell it's only just the beginning. I have grown so much with Val I upped my lessons to twice a week because I just can't get enough! You think your voice is done and is what it is? It's not. Go to Val and he'll prove you otherwise! lol

I teach beginning to professional singers in many contemporary styles. I teach beginners of all ages, and generally do not teach students younger than 10, but please call TakeLessons for more details.

About Veronica

I began my own piano studies at age 10 and voice studies at age 15. I have been teaching private piano and voice lessons for almost 8 years to students of many ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. I received my BA with a focus in music performance (piano and voice) from Columbia College Chicago.  I also received my MA in Community Counseling from Northeastern Illinois University.  With that combination of skills, I know how to teach music, pass on an appreciation for music, and develop a rapport with students and families alike. I can teach many styles of piano and voice, and I teach my students the proper music theory and vocabulary in order to make their education well-rounded and transferable to multiple musical settings and instruments. My own experience includes solo ...

Outstanding Piano instruction!

My son has taken piano lessons from Ms. Kott for over 3 years now, and we cannot say enough about her. She is that rare combination of encouraging, enthusiastic, yet serious teacher that you hope to find for your child. Not only has our son learned the basics, he has also learned theory along the way. She is reliable, relatable, and a great gauge of their personalities. I would, and do recommend her to everyone. In fact, this year my younger son has started lessons too! If you'd like a teacher who will help your child learn in a supportive, encouraging, yet professional environment, Ms. Kott is the perfect teacher for you.

Singing lessons are customized for individual goals. Perhaps your goal is as simple as enjoying the healthy benefits of breathing deeply, strengthening posture, and singing for fun. Senior citizens can take singing lessons for the purpose of remembering old songs while sitting up and breathing. Singing lessons teach proper vocal warm-up, but also emphasize becoming familiar with the many standard songs of various genres. While Classical Voice lessons avoid the use of improper vocal production, Popular amateur-level Singing lessons include learning how to use the voice to create the sounds in today's music without harming the voice. The student learns to balance the desire to maintain a healthy voice against the purposefully incorrect use of the voice in order to sound like popular singers.

About Melodie

An adult voice or singing lesson has a minimum duration of 45min.

The only scheduling options I accept are either weekly recurring or Schedule-As-You-Go. ALL "RECURRING" SCHEDULES MUST BE ON A WEEKLY BASIS. I do not accept an every-other-week schedule, even though the website allows you to book that way. If you're not taking a lesson the same time every week, your only other option is Schedule-As-You-Go, which means each lesson is scheduled on an individual, floating basis, with no standing appointment. I generally recommend the Schedule As-You-Go option for my students.

In my "studio" there is room for one student and one parent/guardian/friend. There is no room for any additional people whatsoever. There is no waiting area, and the office is ...

My lessons with Melodie are everything I hoped they would be. I had the goal of finding my vocal range, defining what type of singer I could be, and developing my voice. She has exceeded all my expectations and I am learning quick. She's very patient, teaches in an easy to understand method, and has a great attitude. Best of all, we have a blast together! I look forward to each and every one of our lessons. Melodie clearly is a practiced instructor and it seems that she would be able to find an effective way to teach anyone. I definitely recommend Melodie!

Great results!

I've have a number of other voice teachers in the the past and have had mixed results and made some progress. Since I started working with Melodie, I have grown so much as a singer and musician. She has greatly improved my vocal intonation, breath control and vocal range. When we work on a particular piece of music her input for better interpretation has always been right on the mark and I am better able to convey the message of the music. in short working with Melodie has allowed me to find my true singing voice. I will be forever grateful to her for her superb musical guidance.
David E. Forest Park, IL

I have a lot of knowledge and experience in understanding the art of singing. I've studied with some of the best voice teachers out there and have many exercises and even will help you to glean some insight on some of the physiological components of singing- breathing, chest voice, head voice, mix voice, and falsetto that will in turn expand your range and enhance your overall tone.

David was my first choice and I couldn't be more satisfied. He's prompt and polite. He shows patience in it's entirety yet he is very persistent as he just only wants to progress. Also, he is extremely encouraging and not just talk. I told David at our first lesson that I had never touched a guitar before and that he was out of his mind to suggest we start with The Beatles as a first song to learn. He just smiled and said I could learn it by the end of the month if I really wanted to. It came out like a challenge but I liked that he had faith in my abilities, and sure enough after only two months of practicing I felt confident enough to get up on stage and perform live. It was my first performance ever. David's passion for music makes him a stellar instructor!

When I met David, music had not always been a positive experience. As an older student, I am not always able to practice and I do have other things on my mind. He has never scolded me for not practicing, he is very patient with all my musical hangups, and he keeps meeting me where I am at. I may still not be comfortable with music, but I am comfortable with him.
