Emmy is a brilliant teacher. Her approach towards teaching is very light handed and caring. She makes suggestions that not only solve an individual trouble spot or problem, but can be applied across multiple angles of singing. Her expertise in vocal training is abundantly evident.

I genuinely look forward to each lesson, eager to hear her feedback and input on the various pieces we are working on. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a great vocal instructor.

Very lovely person to work with and willing to work with different music styles. Lessons are fairly structured and Emmy offers good advice on improving voice control and breathing.

I am happy to take any student at any interest level.
I request an open indoor space for physical movement and play.

I specialize in movement for the actor, and draw from the Alexander Technique, Viewpoints, Yoga, and Rudolph Laban's effort action
I am also classically trained within the grand tradition of Constantin Stanislavski and have spent much of my professional career working with Shakespeare.
In addition, I work commercially and can offer students coaching within that context, particularly within the realm of on camera comedy.

I will tailor the work to the needs and interests of the student.

Ben is a great teacher and great guy. Since I had a musical background and training, I was searching for a specific type of teacher that would help me improve my singing but in a specific style (singer-songwriter/r&b). Ben demonstrated a great deal of knowledge not only in technical instruction, but with the elements singers use in that specific style to be successful. That is not a skill everyone would have. He shows a thirst for learning more to make himself and his students better. I have already shown big improvements over a few months. So, if you are looking for a versatile teacher who cares a lot about seeing you improve, he's your guy.

I have never had any interest in singing beyond that which I do in my car, but I do now!
I agreed to take a lesson from Ben purely to see what range of voice I had. I planned on taking only one lesson, simply for this reason. As Ben had me doing the exercises, I realized that I had quite a bit of potential I never even dreamed I would have. He unlocked things in my voice I never knew I had. I learnt so much from that one lesson and had such a truly fun time, I decided I would continue.
I have taken six lessons now and I see huge improvements in my singing. When I sing for fun in the car, I now know how to "tame" my voice, I now understand the mechanics of singing styles and I understand how to breathe properly.
Each lesson I learn something new and though I tend to sometimes forget proper technique, Ben is always patient with me and, in a clear and concise way, shows me what I am doing wrong. He has a very good way of explaining things and really tries to unlock all my potential. Every visit I walk away happy and excited and with a lighter step. I feel my confidence, in general, has increased through these lessons. I fully recommend Ben to anyone wanting to learn what they are capable of with their voice...I've learned everyone is capable of singing. I recommend even one lesson with Ben to learn some basics and see what your vocal range is...and from there, see if you don't want to continue :)

I have worked with children and adults at all levels! From beginner to advanced, my approach does not change! It is all about finding out what you want in the scene or monologue and then incorporating different techniques based on your level to help you achieve that goal.

About Ashley

Hello! My name is Ashley W and I am an acting teacher and coach! To give you a bit of background about myself, I have recently moved to Chicago from New York where I spent the last three years working on my careers both as an actor and teaching artist. Teaching has become such a passion of mine and I am extremely invested in making it a parallel career for myself. I hold a MFA in Acting from the American Conservatory Theatre and a BFA in Theatre Performance from the University of Evansville. I have worked with children for over 15 years as a childcare provider, camp counselor and mentor. Working with children is truly a passion of mine, alongside acting, and I love integrating both of these aspects of my life by being a teaching artist. I have also coached adults working on ...

I worked with Ashley in Groves High School's production of the play Radium Girls in spring of 2014. When Ashley first started with us during the production, I was so excited to have a new assistant director. Ashley was so involved as a mentor who provided us with feedback, acting notes, and new techniques to make our performance that much better. Her advice and insight on our scenes and acting choices helped us to look deeper into our character development. One thing that was memorable to me was Ashley making something as simple as a warm up so fun and beneficial; she taught us ways to access all the areas of our voices and energy. I loved working with Ashley and know that I, as well as all the other cast members, benefited so much from her work with us.

Ashley helped me with my performance in my high school production of "Radium Girls." Her notes pushed me to develop a true and complex portrayal of my character. She has a fantastic perspective that finds the subtle flaws and room for improvement and then was great at really communicating and helping me achieve that potential in my character. I was also impressed by how well she tailored her instruction to everyone in the cast--every person works differently but she still managed to find our individual styles and needs and take us all one level higher!
Ashley was a great help!

Ashley is one of the best acting instructors I have ever worked with. She was the assistant director for "Radium Girls" at Groves High School and she helped everyone in the cast improve their performances greatly. She always had notes for us, even if she had already seen the scene ten times, which ensured that we were constantly being pushed to go to the next level. Working with Ashley taught me how to become a more well-rounded actress because she helped with everything from movement, to voice, to emotional accessibility. She is so talented and I hope to get to work with her again soon.
