I believe that progressive teaching must employ constructive pedagogical strategies to foster meaningful musical experiences for students to build and to exhibit competence. My pedagogical model is comprised of a student-centered approach to produce attainable challenges and to affect affirmative changes that will physically, technically, and emotionally enrich each student’s performance.

During instruction, I exercise scaffolding methods to facilitate the students’ zone of proximal development and innovative questioning to augment students’ cognitive thinking and critical thinking skills. The process of musical learning is purposeful when it is facilitated within a nurturing environment to motivate the students’ intrinsic interests and that is my goal!

As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me.

I am an extremely experienced Cellist and Guitarist with nearly ten years of performing and teaching experience. I have been playing guitar since the age of five and cello since the age of eight, and have performed all over New York, Ohio, and North Carolina, as well as Italy. I have a B.A. in Cello Performance from the University at Buffalo, and an M.A. in Music Performance from the Copland School of Music at Queens College.

I have appeared with classical orchestras and chamber groups all over the Buffalo, Western New York, and NYC area, as well performed with rock, blues, folk, and alternative groups playing both guitar and cello. I have recorded numerous albums and toured with various rock groups.

Roland R was born and raised in New York City. He started playing drums at the ripe age of 12. Throughout his schooling, Roland was a member of Concert Bands, Jazz Bands, and Drum Corps. He eventually started to explore playing music outside of school with friends and independent musicians around New York City. Roland's teaching "career" started about 7 years ago, when his baby cousins took an interest in banging on pots and pans with wooden spoons. His interest in helping others develop their ability to express themselves eventually evolved into in-studio lessons with children and adults of all skill levels. I would not be the person I am today if music wasn't the focal point in my life as it is. Not only do I absolutely love performing and studying music myself, but I adore teaching as well. Part of the musical experience is taking what you hear and what you learn from others and building on it to create your own musical contributions. I take the gifts other teachers and musicians have given me very seriously and subsequently feel the great importance of imparting my knowledge unto others.

I've been teaching full time since 2005, and I can teach players of all ages and all levels, in most styles. I have also taught bass students as well as music theory and songwriting concepts.

I have taught as an Elementary Teacher for over 28 years. I taught in a public school in Queens, New York. I have a reputation of being patient and creative. I believe in teaching to benefit the student at his or her potential.
I attended Queens College and received my BS degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I received my Masters degree also in Elementary and Early Childhood Education in 14 months. I have 45 credits above my Masters in Special Education, and art and music for children. As an undergraduate I took a beginning music education course for Elementary students.

I started playing drums in my parents' basement when I was 9 years old. It was just me, a stereo, and a bunch of cardboard boxes I made into my first drumset. Every day, I listened to to my favorite songs over and over again to figure out how to play them. To me, there was nothing more awesome in the world than music.

Since then my musical journey has taken me far and wide. I've studied percussion and composition with world class teachers, toured Europe, composed music for commercials, co-written award winning songs, and performed with a variety of artists at such venues as the Hard Rock Cafe, BB King's, World Cafe, 55 Bar, The Living Room, The Bitter End, and many others. And the one thing that hasn't changed? I'm still totally in awe of it all.
