A classically-trained pianist (M.A. music theory), I've been taking piano lessons since age 6 and began playing "by ear" at age 2. I continued to study piano throughout elementary school and high school, college, majoring in piano in college with additional concentrations in music therapy and psychology. In graduate school, I studied piano and music theory under David Holzman, world-renowned Grammy-nominated pianist and lecturer. I draw from my love of music, piano and my own experience as a pianist, piano student, and piano teacher to motivate and inspire my students.

I have been taking the world by surprise since the age of 4. I began studying at Queens College at 6 years old and was a recital pianist by the age of 12. I was a consumer of music, from the Music Theory lessons on Saturdays, piano lessons on Thursdays and voice lessons on Saturday afternoons, my life was filled with music.

It is to no one's surprise that I completed my first demo at the age of 13 and was performing for Queens Colleges audiences at 14. I went on the rank high in the NYSSMA series in both piano and voice. I also went on to study music in college and began touring with gospel troupes nationally. SInce then I has done many workshops, Master Classes, tour dates, theatre shows etc. Too many to date. I am a sought after teacher for voice, piano and broadway singing. I train public speakers, actors and teachers as well.

My love affair with music began in his childhood home in Israel, surrounded by European classical music and opera. When the 1960’s pop revolution started to filter onto Israeli radio from England, Sarel became captivated with the simplicity and lyricism of the Beatles. In 1989 Sarel began his jazz education at Berklee College of Music, where he began an intensive collaboration with Jerry Bergonzi, who encouraged and honed Sarel’s improvisational skills. I began to step out professionally while still a student, soloing in concerts with The Boston Afro-American Artist Association Festival and at the Lawrence and Alma Berk Recital Hall. Sarel moved to Budapest in 1994, and found an emerging Eastern European city. In 1995, I began to teach, play sessions and write. I started playing the drumset at age 12, and have been playing for 20 years, and teaching for 5 years. My drum playing covers many different styles including Rock, Jazz, Funk, Punk, and my favorite, Progressive Rock. Soon after I started playing drums, I played in my high school jazz band, orchestra, and marching band. I have been playing ever since and still love it 'til this day.

Some of my favorite drummers range from Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Carter Beauford, Travis Barker to Neil Peart.

People have told me that I am my biggest critic, and therefore, I am always trying to find ways to improve and reinvent my style and approach to playing and teaching drums.

As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me.

I've been playing violin since age 11. However, from the age of 8 I was hooked on music. I graduated high school from Dr. Phillips which had a Performing Arts Magnet program which I was a part of. I was soloist with the Dr. Phillips Chamber Symphony when we took a trip to Atlanta, Georgia where I performed the Theme from " Schindler's List."

I then went on to pursue my Bachelor's degree from Stetson University in Deland, Florida. My teacher was Routa Kroumovitch-Gomez a Moscow Conservatory graduate and former student of David Oistrakh. While at Stetson I was awarded the William E. Duckwitz award. I was also awarded the Baron Gee String Scholarship that made me also a member of the school's official string quartet. With the Barron string quartet I performed throughout Florida, playing for students as well as concert members. My senior year I performed Vivaldi's "Summer" from the Four Seasons at the Stetson University Chamber Orchestra concert.

I would not be the person I am today if music wasn't the focal point in my life as it is. Not only do I absolutely love performing and studying music myself, but I adore teaching as well. Part of the musical experience is taking what you hear and what you learn from others and building on it to create your own musical contributions. Whether you want to be a professional, or just be competent enough to enjoy yourself, we all practice, study technique and gain knowledge about music with really only one goal in mind: To have all the tools necessary to express ourselves adeptly through music. My name is Lauren, and I'm a piano and voice teacher based in Brooklyn. I love music more than anything (even animals, iced coffee, shopping, and being outside on nice days!)

My musical journey started early: I was 4 when I begged my parents for a piano after 'playing' one at a distant relatives home. I haven't looked back since, and my entire life has been centered around listening to, creating, loving, and teaching music. I love all kinds of music: I grew up with old rock and classical, but quickly found that I loved jazz, r&b, musical theatre soundtracks, everything!

I have a large place in my heart for music theory, ear training, and composition, so if you have trouble with these topics or would like to get better at them, I am a good resource for that.
