Subjects Taught

Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Music Theory, Singing, Songwriting

About Me

My name is Sean W. and I've been a multi instrumentalist for 23 years! I've performed opera as a soprano, Rock, funk, punk, metal, and Jazz on guitar, bass, and drum-kit. I find being able to accompany my students on other instruments to be an indispensable tool.

I my elementary years I attended a music school. There I performed "classical styles" as a solo soprano and classical pianist. My experience included performing opera with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and smaller "gigs", like weddings and seasonal concerts. I still to this day value my classical training.

In 2005-2009 I attended Berklee College of Music as a Bass Principal, majoring in Contemporary Writing and production. My experience here was amazing! There I was able to use every skill I had ever earned as a musician and expand them all exponentially. Writing and recording music made me a more well balanced teacher. I am now able to help my students explore their creative side as while improving their musical proficiency.

Students can expect an individual lesson plan based on their goals and skill level. I enjoy teaching the experienced as well as beginners. I'm easy going but i promise you will always have plenty of material to work on. My goal as a teacher is to provide a most excellent educational experience without being boring.
My lessons are mostly broken up into a few categories which include songs,(of your choosing), technique, ear training, reading, and theory.

One of my favorite thing to do is to accompany my students on other instruments.
I do not ascribe to a set curriculum. I use the Berklee practice method to assist with basics, but no two students have the same curriculum. There will be multiple instruments and a computer at every lesson at my home studio! Technology is an important aspect of a modern musicians education.

My teaching space in Davis is well stocked with Guitar, bass, and drum gear. My home studio also includes a computer that is full of music software to aid in learning.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home studio with drum kit, loudspeaker system with microphone and effects, bass amp, guitar amp, computer, seating for extra people.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide amplifiers, computer, mics. Students only need their sticks, bass or a guitar.

*** Specialties ***
I consider myself to be well rounded in regards to style. In Choir School I was Classically trained. At Berklee as a writing Major I was exposed to jazz, latin, pop, orchestral, specializing in rock, metal, fusion, dance and other higher energy styles.

"I love teaching because it's worthwhile to see my students succeed in something they really work hard for. I believe that every student has their own unique way of learning music. I am patient and understanding, so my lesson plans will be based on the student's ability, personal interests, and goals. We can work on songs that range from Bach to Ella Fitzgerald, Rolling Stones to Adele and Taylor Swift. Music is fun and rewarding. With me, students will develop a strong music education to help them succeed while having fun."

Kenneth K. Stockton, CA

Subjects Taught

Cello, Classical Guitar, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Piano, Singing, Upright Bass, Viola, Violin

About Me

My philosophy of teaching has many facets:
1.) The students physical health must be taken into consideration when playing an instrument.
2.) Only through hard work and practice can a student make lasting improvements.
3.) Repetition is the key to long-lasting learning.
4.) A teacher needs to be a cheerleader and a task-master at the same time.
5.) I use the Suzuki Method in as many ways as possible along with reading exercises for most ages.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do have high expectations of my students, but I am considerate about schedules and family conflicts.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Office/classroom, seating for parents, piano - it is his so reservations won't be an issue

*** Specialties ***
I am currently training with a violin/viola master teacher who specializes in teaching the Suzuki Method. I have been training with her since 2009. My method of teaching is applicable to every field in which I teach. I believe a musician produces the best tone with the most efficiency when their body is free of any unnecessary extrinsic muscle tensions. My students learn how to produce music in very healthy way. I don't listen for all my students to sound exactly the same, rather I listen for them to sound free of tensions.

Opera Voice, Singing

About Me

I recently received my BA in music from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While the school is not well known for music, the program stressed being as well rounded in as possible with a "Learn by doing" attitude permeating every class. I believe that this attitude is essential to all musicians, regardless of what style they are interested in. No matter if you wish to sing pop or opera, the basics are the same. I emphasize singing in a healthy manner and taking care of your voice. I also believe that most people are capable of singing well.
I have been involved in several Opera scene performances, most notably performing the role of Lucia in the Mad Scene from "Lucia di Lammermoor" and the Marschallin in the finale of "Der Rosenkavalier." With this background, I can help my students learn how to sing in other languages as well as help them with performance practice, proper posture, basic music reading, and giving them access to resources for more learning opportunities.
I prefer to teach beginning to intermediate students. My ultimate goal is to help my students love music as much as I do and to find the voice that is hidden in them.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons will be separated into three main categories:

1. Warm-ups
This will ready your voice to sing and help prevent damage to your vocal chords
2. Practice
At this point, you will be singing through the piece we have chosen for you to work on. This will take up
the bulk of the lesson.
3. Questions and paperwork
The paperwork will simply be assignment sheets and any other photocopies I feel will help you become a better musician.

You will need a recording device of some sort so that you can listen to the lesson during the week. This will help you remember the warm-ups and the suggestions given for proper vocal production. If this is a problem, please mention it and we will figure it out.

Sheet music will be needed for any song you wish to practice in lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the living room, keyboard, music stand

*** Specialties ***
I was trained in classical voice, including opera, but I also am trained in pop and a little in musical theater.

I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around.

I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student.
I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice and to be instrumental in your musical growth too; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too!

*** Lesson Details ***
I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally.
For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level.
I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in open space, digital piano, music stands, violins available for rent, music, staff paper and computer
