Bass Guitar, Guitar, Piano, Singing, Broadway Singing, Classical Guitar, English, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Reading, Songwriting, Organ
I have been teaching voice, guitar and piano to students of all ages and levels for over 5 years now. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a BA in Songwriting and Vocal Studies. I teach mostly contemporary musical styles such as Pop/Rock/Country/R&B, but I have also trained and coached many students interested in pursuing musical theater and classical styles as well. I have performed live in countless venues in many cities both as a solo artist, and with a band as a sidewoman. I like to emphasize performance skills as well as the basic techniques. I also have a lot of experience in the recording studio, and I relate that to any student interested in recording. As a songwriter, I have co-written with a few of my students and coached them on song structure, melody, etc. I also incorporate as much basic music theory as I can with my students and their instruments, in order that they may understand the language of music better. Overall, I try to cater to the individual needs of each and every one of my students -- and have fun!!
My name is Javier and I love to teach !
I believe music makes an individual happier and assists in intellectual growth. If you just want to learn 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' or pursue a professional career in music, you have to start with something and I would be more than glad to help you start in your new adventure.
So, here it is, a little bit about myself and my music background:
I am originally from Guanajuato, Mexico and in my last year of high school, I decided to take private piano lessons with a local teacher and it was during this time period that I learned classical pieces by Beethoven and Mozart. I also took music notation and I tried a hand at composing, discovering a new way to communicate in terms of music.
After moving to the USA, I resume my music education, learning new concepts on classical, blues and pop styles, as well as chord progression and accompaniment pieces. After a year and after completing the teacher training program, I started to teach piano from my home studio.
During this time, I took upon myself two more years of intense composition study and experimenting with some of the secrets of this art, which now has become one of my passion. In 2007 I earned a diploma from this institution and in the same year I released two CDs of my own compositions: Van Gogh Sunflower's and Dimes y Diretes.
This year I have enrolled in a music program at the Music Conservatory of San Francisco, where I am expecting to learn and expand my knowledge on technique, performing, and music ensembles.
For six years, I have been teaching successfully from my home studio, teaching students of all ages and with different music backgrounds.
With more than 20 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. In addition, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin lessons to my students in Folsom, Napa and Sacramento.
My professional performing experience began in Medellin, Colombia in 1985 with the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra where I was their Soloist beginning in 1992 and later on, as First Cello, from 1998-2002.
While in Colombia, I also performed with the Antioquia Symphonic Orchestra and the Antioquia Chamber Orchestra from 1991-1999.
I left my hometown of Medellin to come to the United States where I performed with the Texas Christian University Orchestra in Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. Returning to Medellin, I spent the next year with the Eafit Symphonic Orchestra.
Finally, I settled in Sacramento in 2003, coming here to earn my Master's Degree in Cello Performance while performing throughout the next year with the California State University, Sacramento Symphony.
In Sacramento, I have also performed with the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra and with several other chamber groups.
At this time, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin. My students range in age from six to seventy years and enjoy learning in a relaxing environment at their own pace.
I incorporate several different teaching styles to meet each students' individual needs and abilities.
Piano, Music Theory
I took piano lessons as a child and my passion for music blossomed. I have been playing for over 30 years. I have always loved writing my own songs, and finally recorded a CD of original contemporary piano. I started teaching piano in 2007, and I am passionate about teaching my students proper techniques and concepts correctly so they will become proficient at reading and playing music. I have always connected easily with children and consider myself very fortunate to be able to teach the joys of music to children of all ages! I have a Bachelor's degree in Communications, I performed as a member of a local college orchestra for 2 years, where I played second string violin and piano. I also have performed drama on stage. From 2011-2013 I have taught music classes to kindergarteners up to sixth graders at a local private elementary school. I am a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), and California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT).
Guitar, Piano, Singing, Music Theory
I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.A. in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.
I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.
I have 26 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 6yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I speak fluent Korean and English.
Singing, Violin, Broadway Singing, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice
I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played in numerous pit orchestras for musicals.
I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed with the Yuba College jazz band.
I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College.Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and rhythm), and am currently teaching this curriculum.
I have been teaching music privately for ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 5 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices, as I am site supervisor qualified. I also have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student.
I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too!
