Hello, I'm Alison and welcome to my page! I truly believe that music is a gift and I am passionate about sharing that gift through teaching and playing. I love music and I definitely love teaching private lessons, which I have been doing for about 5 years now! Every student brings new challenges of which I'm ready to tackle with them and help them grow.

I received a degree in viola performance from the University of Louisville School of Music in May 2010. I studied under Chien-Ju Liao along with many other great violists in the Louisville community. I've also had the pleasure of playing with many quartets, chamber ensembles and orchestras including Louisville Youth Orchestra, All-State, the UofL Symphony, and the Louisville Orchestra. Some of my greatest moments involve playing in Carnegie Hall and premiering a world-class ballet performance with the UofL Symphony Orchestra. I am a professional musician who can give instruction on many musical styles ranging from Classical to Folk Music from several different countries. All ages are welcome!
As a student, I was involved for many years as a violist with The Louisville Youth Orchestra, I became a graduate of the Youth Performing Arts School in Louisville, Ky. in 1981 majoring in music and theater. I have since performed in a a broad spectrum of musical involvements including accompanying international folk dance troupes, performing Celtic and traditional music at events in several countries, composing music for, and directing several theatrical productions. At the same time I have been involved in educating children in music in several Community Schools throughout the Eastern U.S.. I now reside in Crestwood, Ky, where where I teach and operate a music shop called 'Hewn from the Mountain Music Cafe''.

I started playing piano when I was 8. I started writing compositions around 9. Since I was singing in the choir, I began to fuse piano and singing, until I wrote my first song with words when I was twelve. Along the way I learned guitar, bass, drums, and various forms of composition and recording techniques. I toured with my band The Navigators for several years and I have had compositions of mine in TV shows like "The Unit" and in the documentary "Dreamriders" as well as various independent films. Along the way I have taught every age group from six months of age up to adult.

Hi! I've traveled to Ireland, Austria, and Italy to study music, and I'm ready to bring it back and share it with you.

My piano lessons started before preschool at age 3; since then, I have taught myself many other instruments and styles, including classical training in violin and viola. For my semester abroad I studied music with the best in Vienna, Austria, the European capitol of classical music. I'm hoping to enter the Music Theory program at the University of Louisville graduate program so I can continue learning and eventually become a professor.
