I have a Music degree from Wayne State University, with a concentration in jazz studies, where I focused on performance and writing; including composition, arranging and orchestration. I have been playing guitar for 25 years. I took formal guitar lessons for seven years, won numerous awards locally and nationally, and have been a professional musician for most of my life. I have studied music theory elaborately, and was accepted to both the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. I decided to start on a musical career immediately, and did so in my hometown of Detroit. I play/teach, have written, performed, and recorded everything from indie rock, Jazz, classical guitar, Flamenco/modern latin guitar, and other traditional world music. I currently front my own indie rock project "The Static Dial", as guitarist/vocalist/songwriter.

I like to learn about the people I am teaching so that I can better understand their needs as a musician. My education came as a practical necessity in order to get better as a teacher and performer, as well as make a living doing it. But, by no means do I preach the need to be "educated" to be a working, practical musician. This can scare people off. I do however enlighten you into why it may be important to understand certain aspects of music as opposed to just "picking and grinning", IE learning only "By Ear."
