About Me

With a voice that has been described as “exquisite,” “sublime,” and “pure beauty,” soprano Veronica has performed with opera companies and orchestras across the country while keeping firm roots in her hometown of Philadelphia. She has performed with small choruses and full orchestras, in intimate outdoor venues and major opera houses. She is an Artist in Residence at Temple University and has sung as a core member of many local choral ensembles, but frequently travels outside of the area to perform.

Recently returned from Shenandoah Bach Festival’s Mozart C minor mass, and her first Countess with the Shenandoah Bach Festival’s concert version Le nozze di Figaro. 2010-2011 season also took Veronica on tour for the Northeast Louisiana / Union Parish Arts Council’s Amazing Grace (featuring music of various religions, time periods and styles).

In 2008-2009 Veronica sang the role of the High Priestess for Opera Birmingham’s Aida, and added several new roles to her repertoire, including Liu (Turandot) with Opera Birmingham, the title role in Lakme with Concert OPERA of Philadelphia and Nedda (I Pagliacci) with Sycamore Opera and The Cousin (Madama Butterfly) with the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Of her finessed and dramatic portrayal of Liu, the press remarked that “(she) sang passionately in the tear-jerking Act 1 aria, "Signore, ascolta," her final high pianissimo notes suspended in pure beauty. In Act 3, she provided one of the opera's most startling and poignant moments when she stabbed herself at the end of "Tu che di gel." She also performed a recital of opera and Broadway favorites to open Opera Birmingham’s performance season and traveled to Louisiana to celebrate the holidays as a soloist for the Northern Louisiana / Union Parish Arts Council’s I’ll Be Home for Christmas concerts.

Veronica performed two roles in Porgy and Bess in 2008, singing Clara with Opera Birmingham and Lilly with Lyric Opera of Chicago. She also appeared with Opera Delaware as Gianetta in The Gondoliers and won fifth place and audience favorite in the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition.

2007 was a year of rave reviews for Veronica on both the opera and the concert stage. Of Opera Birmingham’s production of Cenerentola, Michael Huebner of The Birmingham News remarked "The role of Clorinda was engagingly sung, Veronica milked the sister's arrogance and ineptitude for all their worth. This was a five star production!” Her recital performance with famed mezzo Marietta Simpson and bass Kevin Maynor was praised by the Birmingham Times, “Veronica’s agility and confidence in the upper register created some of the concert's most sublime passages. Her embellishments in 'Ride On King Jesus' were exquisite." Additional concert performances took her Muskegon, MI for performances with the West Shore Symphony, to Tennessee for the Memphis Symphony’s televised “Home for The Holidays” concert and to Spoleto, Italy for the invitational Festival di Due Monde.

During 2006 Veronica performed Sandrina in La Finta Giardiniera with Elysium Concert Opera of Philadelphia and Fiordiligi (Cosi fan Tutte) with Delaware Valley Opera Company, and the title character in Little Red Riding Hood with Opera Birmingham. Michael Caruso of the Chestnut Hill Local called her a “romantic and pearl voiced Fiordiligi.” She also performed several musical theater selections with Bristol Riverside Theater for their Summer Musicale and then their holiday-themed Winter Musicale. Anita Donovan of The Trenton Times remarked, “Veronica ’s…powerful version of ‘Summertime’, ‘I Loves You Porgy’, My Man’s Gone Now’, and (the duet) ‘Bess You Is My Woman Now’ makes one long or a full-scale revival.”

2005 Veronica performed Edith in Pirates of Penzance with Gulf Atlantic Symphony of Florida, Violetta (student matinee performance) and Aninna (main stage production) for Center City Opera Theater’s La Traviata. That summer she returned to Ash Lawn Opera Festival and appeared as Dolly Tate in Annie Get Your Gun. She was also chosen to be Gretel in Opera Birmingham’s educational tour of Hansel and Gretel. After leaving Birmingham she sang Donna Elvira with New York Opera Project, in which Debra Banerjee of the Scarsdale Inquire called her performance “very emotional….a very dramatic presence.”

Veronica spent most of 2004 away from her Philadelphia home performing with Opera Colorado as Gretel in Hansel and Gretel (outreach ensemble) and Berta (student matinee performance) in Il barbiere di Siviglia. She also performed the roles of Susanna (one performance) and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro with Opera Theater of The Rockies in Colorado Springs, and performed with the Colorado Symphony in their “Opera on The Rocks” concert at Red Rocks. That summer she was chosen as an apprentice at the Ash Lawn Opera Festival singing the Boylen Sister in Annie and Berta (cover) in The Barber of Seville.

In 2003 Veronica made her professional debut performing the title role in the Savoy Company’s production of Princess Ida, and appeared with the Young Artist Program at Natchez Opera Festival performing the role of the Princess in Fair Means of Foul. That same year she also performed at Shaker Mountain Opera as Gianetta in L’elisir d’amore and Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro.

She has also been a soprano soloist for the Charlotte Symphony, Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia, Mendelsshon Club of Philadelphia, Ursinus College, In Clara Voce, and Orquestra Sinfonica Municipal de Caracas to name a few. She is known for her very versatile vocal abilities. Some demonstrations of her flexibility include her appearance with the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia as the voice of Joan of Arc (a part that previously was only sung by members of the well-known group Anonymous 4) in Richards Einhorn’s Voices of Light and her appearance as soloist in the Monteverdi Vespers 1610 with Choral Arts Society of Philadelphia.

Veronica’s upcoming engagements include First Lady in Opera Delaware's production of The Magic Flute, covering Pamina in the same production, and Soprano One in the solo quartet of Opera Company of Philadelphia's production of Manon Lescaut.

I have been teaching piano/music reading and voice lessons of all ages since 2003. I really enjoy exploring the journey of learning about music with my students.

With voice lessons we learn the fundamentals of singer (breath, "placement", pitch accuracy, rhythm accuracy, and diction) Most students see a marked improvement in their singing ability in about 3-6 months. Singing is not always easy, but in a nurturing, safe environment I allow my students to realize their true potential.

In piano/music reading lessons I teach beginners. At these lessons you will learn basics of music reading music, rhythm exercises, and the basics of music theory. My attitude about playing piano is the same as singing, it may not be easy all the time but the time invested in learning will be worth the reward of being able to play an instrument!

Elizabeth has been praised for her clear ringing soprano voice, excellent comic timing, and warm and enlightening performances (The News Journal of Wilmington, DE). She is a versatile singer and actively performs in musical theatre, operetta, and opera. She is also an established and respected voice and piano teacher.

Elizabeth's most recent appearances include featured performances with New Voices Cabaret at the Society Hill Playhouse in Center City, the role of Woman 2 in My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra with Mainstage Center for the Arts in Blackwood, NJ, and the role of Peaches/ Baby Jane in Jerry Springer: The Opera with Bootless Stageworks in Wilmington. She has performed numerous leading roles with Philadelphia area Gilbert and Sullivan companies, most notably appearing as Angelina in Trial by Jury with The Savoy Company, winning √ʬ¬Ä¬¬úBest American Production√ʬ¬Ä¬¬Ě at the 2011 International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival. Her G &S performance credits include the roles of Patience (Patience), Yum-Yum (The Mikado), Rose Maybud (Ruddigore), Phyllis (Iolanthe), and Fiammetta (Gondoliers). Additionally, she has pioneered roles in new operas, including Gwendolyn in The Crowded House at the 2010 Philly Fringe Festival and Zelda in Black Horses with OperaDelaware at the 2009 Wilmington Fringe Festival. She √ʬ¬Ä¬¬útackled the challenging score with gusto, her beautiful soprano and excellent diction winning in even the highest vocal points√ʬ¬Ä¬¬Ě (The Community News of Wilmington, DE).

Elizabeth holds an M.M. in vocal performance from West Virginia University, where she was featured in numerous WVU Opera Theatre productions and was the soprano soloist with WVU Choirs in Faure's Requiem and Handel's Lord Nelson Mass. While at WVU, Elizabeth resumed taking lessons at the piano, which she had previously studied for many years, and exceeded the piano proficiency level required by the university. She also holds a B.A. in music and international studies from Emory University. Elizabeth has studied and performed internationally, both at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria, where she was the recipient of the Lemmonds Scholarship, and at the Bel Canto program in conjunction with L√ʬ¬Ä¬¬ôArena di Verona opera company in Verona, Italy.

As a graduate assistant at WVU, Elizabeth taught voice lessons to music education and performance majors as well as a course on vocal pedagogy. After graduating, she served as adjunct faculty, in which capacity she taught vocal repertoire and opera theater. She has maintained a private studio since 2005, in which she instructs students in voice and piano.

I am a fun, enthusiastic teacher who cares deeply about her students and their growth as musicians and people. I believe teaching works best when students are relaxed, having fun, and are actively engaged in the learning process. Musical skills depend upon muscles, so it is important that you practice what we work on during lessons at home if you wish to see real progress. I will work hard along with you and ask for your input during lessons √ʬ¬Ä¬¬ď we are partners in the learning process.

My specialty is the voice. I teach classical vocal technique with an emphasis on the body-mind connection. Through the course of my training, I have studied the Alexander Technique, which is a method that has been used by actors, musicians, and athletes to find optimal body-mind coordination to achieve better results. The voice is the only instrument that is literally your body, so we will be using these tools to improve posture, breathing, and resonance. By learning a healthy vocal technique, you can expect improved tone quality, an expanded vocal and dynamic range, greater resonance, increased agility, improved diction, and more. Healthy vocal technique can be applied to any genre, but I work mostly with classical and musical theater repertoire as this is my area of expertise.

I am also an established piano teacher and have had much success teaching beginning and intermediate students from ages 4 to 91 in various styles of music. I believe it is important for students to learn how to read and interpret written music as well as understand the structure behind it, so in addition to learning musical basics, I incorporate music theory into lessons. I encourage my piano students to learn how to read lead sheets and create chord accompaniments as well, which opens the door for comfortably playing in all sorts of styles sooner than would be possible by classical approaches alone. I also work on improvisation and songwriting with my piano students.

Whichever you choose to study (voice, piano, or both), I tailor lessons to suit each student's needs. I would like to enable you to meet your musical goals, whatever they may be.

Born in Moldova, lyric soprano Galina S. has emerged as a young artist of remarkable versatility and great vocal beauty.

Ms. S’s impressive voice and sensitive musicianship has lead to performances in numerous cities in the United States as well as Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Israel, Moldova, and St. Petersburg, Russia. Her repertoire encompasses a vast gamut and includes lieder, chamber music, oratorio, and opera, sung in various languages, including German, French, Italian, Russian, Czech, English, and Spanish.

Galina will be next heard as Amelia in Un ballo in maschera with Concert Opera Philadelphia, in March 2013. She will also sing the title role in Suor Angelica with OperaOggi NY in 2012/2013 season. Her most recent roles include Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (New York Lyric Opera Theater), Fiordiligi in Cosž fan tutte, Nedda in I Pagliacci, Mimž and Musetta in La BohŤme, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. Some of the other roles are Violetta in La Traviata, Tatiana in Eugene Onegin, the title role in Iolanta, Marfa in Tsar’s Bride, Pamina in Die ZauberflŲte, and Konstanze in Die EntfŁhrung aus dem Serail.

In oratorio Ms. S. has performed as a soprano soloist in the Lord Nelson Mass and Theresa Mass of Haydn, Handel’s Messiah, J. S. Bach’s Magnificat, and the Neue Liebeslieder, Opus 65 by Brahms. Her recital and chamber repertoire include songs and song cycles by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, DvoŇôak, Manuel de Falla, Poulenc, and Messiaen.

Ms. S. has been the recipient of several awards and scholarships which include Washington International Competition in Washington DC, Center for Contemporary Opera Competition in New York, Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition in New York, New York Vocal Artists Competition, Peabody Conservatory Graduate Performance Diploma Scholarship and grant, and Mayor’s Scholarship from the University of Pennsylvania where Galina received her undergraduate degrees in music and computer science engineering. Galina has also been chosen to participate in the International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich.

Galina is a graduate of Peabody Conservatory of Music where she received a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance, and University of Pennsylvania, which she finished with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music and Computer Science Engineering.

Ms. S. is a dedicated and enthusiastic voice teacher, who has been teaching for the past ten years. Many of her students have become soloists in their schools’ musical productions, and several went on to continue their studies at major conservatories. She has taught at Cabrini College, Settlement Music School, and is presently teaching at Leopold Mozart Academy. She also offers lessons out of her private studio at her home.

My style of teaching is very straight forward. Students will first learn a proper breathing technique which is essential to good vocal production. The lessons always start with simple vocalizations, followed by repertoire appropriate to each student. The development and progress will greatly depend on students initial level and the time they spend practicing at home.

Alexis attended college at the University of Delaware and graduated cum laude with a double major in Music Performance: Voice and Music Education: Choral/Vocal. During her time at the University of Delaware, she was involved in numerous musical ensembles including Collegium Musicium , and performed as a soloist on a number of occasions, including two solo recital programs and major roles in the UD Opera Theater program (UDOT). †Alexis†has performed as a soloist and ensemble singer for the UD Schola Cantorum, The UD Chorale, and the Newark Symphony Chorus. In theater,†Alexis†has played both comic and serious roles, including a striking female interpretation of E. K. Hornbeck in Inherit the Wind. Alexis has also worked in film, recently completing the production of Dead on Delmarva, a zombie-comedy-thriller produced by Arkham Productions scheduled to be released in 2013, and is looking forward to working with Arkham Productions again on a future film.

In addition to her acclaim as a performer,†Alexis†gained recognition for her work as a choral conductor and voice teacher, working with the UD Opera Theater Chorus, New Ark United Church of Christ adult and children's ensembles, and was the music director for the production of Les Miserables at Mt. Pleasant High School. Alexis†currently works as a vocal coach for The Tatnall School as well as the as the assistant conductor for The Episcopal Church of the Advent in Kennett Square, PA.

Alexis teaches proper singing technique and support through the Bel Canto philosophy of singing, and specializes in Classical, Opera, Musical Theater, and Jazz singing styles. Sight singing skill work is also offered and will cover basic music theory in addition to solfege music reading techniques. Alexis also offers audition preparation services such as audio recording and transposition for her voice studio students.

In addition to vocal lessons, Alexis is pleased to offer beginner piano and music theory lessons. My background is as a classically trained singer and voice teacher. I have studied with numerous leading voice teachers and singers in the United States. I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Florida State University in Voice Performance and my Doctorate in Musical Arts in Vocal Pedagogy from The University of Miami. My education has provided me a great understanding of how the voice functions correctly and how to relate this to any level of student, from completely inexperienced singers to advanced singers. About Me

Sandra began her training at the Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. She is a two time recipient of the Mario Lanza Award, and holds a B.M. degree in opera from the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts. She studied acting at both the Wilma and Walnut Theaters in Philadelphia. In New York, she studied Shakespeare at the HB Studios, and received on-camera training at the Weisst- Barron Commercial School. Sandra is a member of Actor's Equity.

Sandra was engaged for seven years at Theater des Westens in Berlin, Germany, where she performed extensively in Musicals and Operetta. She also toured throughout Germany with the ensemble "Operetten Express". In the U.S., Sandra has toured nationally with "Man of La Mancha" and "Carousel", and has performed leading roles in many regional theaters. She also performed in the Off-Broadway Musical "Mamaleh". Sandra has performed in over fifty productions of Musicals, Operetta, and Opera. Some of her favorite roles include: Aldonza (Man of La Mancha), Desiree (A Little Night Music), Marguerite (The Scarlet Pimpernel), Antonia (The Tales of Hoffmann), and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi).

As a director, Sandra has staged operas for Center City Opera Theater, the Delaware Valley Opera Company, Boheme Opera New Jersey, and the New York Metro Vocal Arts Ensemble. She is currently singing concerts with the vocal group "Touch of Classics", and can be seen in commercials for Time Warner, Cuisinart, The Skooter Store, and Aspercreme.

We will work on giving you a solid vocal technique so that you can approach any style of music with a good foundation.
