I teach all styles of guitar, as I have been in many different types of music situations: Soloist (Classical) Ensemble (Classical and Jazz) Lead and Rhythm (Various Rock and Roll bands) Songwriting and Recording. I am a people person that learned the guitar from many different sources. Most of my learning came from watching others and communicating with others. I like to learn about the people I am teaching so that I can better understand their needs as a musician. My education came as a practical necessity in order to get better as a teacher and performer, as well as make a living doing it. But, by no means do I preach the need to be "educated" to be a working, practical musician. This can scare people off. I do however enlighten you into why it may be important to understand certain aspects of music as opposed to just "picking and grinning", IE learning only "By Ear."

I have been playing guitar for 25 years. I took formal guitar lessons for seven years, won numerous awards locally and nationally, and have been a professional musician for most of my life. I have studied music theory elaborately, and was accepted to both the Berklee School of Music in Boston, and the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. I decided to start on a musical career immediately, and did so in my hometown of Detroit. I play/teach, have written, performed, and recorded everything from indie rock, Jazz, classical guitar, Flamenco/modern latin guitar, and other traditional world music. I currently front my own indie rock project "The Static Dial", as guitarist/vocalist/songwriter.

I am looking forward to helping students of all ages and skills grow in their knowledge of drumming and percussion. I have worked with students from 7 years old up to 65. I will bring my learned skills from my Music Education Degree from WMU and my graduate degree in Percussion Pedagogy from MSU to assist all students to improve on their abilities. I have been a member of the International Percussive Arts Society since 1991. Recognized for my abilities I have been made a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and the Guild of Professional Drum Teachers; and I have been called on to judge percussion and full music programs for such organizations as DCI, BOA, USSBA, WGI Indoor Percussion and many local band and percussion circuits around the country. Early grade students and school teachers, fun loving hobbyists and professional musicians all have called on me for support and knowledge. Many have turned to me to have, not only percussion, but, full band music arranged or composed...

As a graduate of the University of Toledo with a Master of Music Education, I believe I have the valuable training and educational background to help you achieve your musical goals in the areas of voice and guitar.

During the course of my education, I was responsible for singing a wide range of parts in sacred and secular groups; from Soprano I down to Alto II. I was often recognized by the directors as an informal section leader, who was relied upon to take the lead. In addition, I gained solo experience as a Music Education student with a vocal concentration at the University of Toledo. I performed for the recital class each semester as well as for juries, and was also a member of Opera Workshop, where I performed opera pieces as a soloist as well as in ensemble.
