He teaches with a variety of arts organizations in Portland, specifically Oregon Children's Theatre, Art4Life, and Isinglass (for whom he serves as the Educational Programming Coordinator). He has extensive on-stage and directorial experience, having performed in eleven shows since 2006 and directed seven more. He is currently working as a directing mentee for Third Rail Repertory Theatre. He also has performed as an improviser for five years, and served as captain of Lewis & Clark College's improv team, SCRIPTED, which garnered regional acclaim during his time leading the team. Nate has extensive experience working with physical comedy and fight choreography, and performed for several summers as a clown. He thinks acting is the most fun and truthful form of artistic expression out there, and has taught and coached in programs in both Portland and Chicago since 2008. He loves helping young people discover their passion and talent.
Nate also has extensive experience working with Special Needs students, and is more than happy to take them on.

I want my students to enjoy the arts but the music and acting is hard work. My students will be well rounded in their subjects and have the opportunity to cross over if they would like.
I pay attention to my students needs and wants. I would like students to be open minded about the work that they are being taught but I also want to take their interests to heart. If a student brings me music or a monologue that they would like to work on, I will review it and try to incorporate it within our studies.

Tutoring has been a major part of my life for over 7 years and I love it. Seeing the excitement in a student's eyes when they finally get something they've struggled with is why I do what I do. My strength is in getting to know the way a student learns best and finding techniques that support that style and help the student grow.
I have experience working with mild autism and have multiple references if interested.

My name is Susan Scovil, and I can't wait to meet you! I recently retired from teaching after 27 years in the public schools. I taught high school Drama, Literature, and Writing, and I loved helping my students improve their skills and gain confidence. I went to the University of Oregon, Portland State University and Central Washington University, earning a degree in English and certification to teach grades 5-12 in English, Theater and Reading. Over the years, I taught all high school levels of English classes. Part of those years I also taught remedial reading and college prep reading. For 16 years, I built a Drama program from the ground up, eventually teaching three levels of Theater classes as well as directing the plays in our extra curricular program. All told, I directed over 35 plays working with hundreds of students. For many years, in my spare time, I have been an avid beader. I make jewelry of various styles with beads and with shrink plastic. Since retiring, I find I have missed collaborating with students, and I would love the opportunity to continue through tutoring.

A brief biography:
At an early age I discovered a love for teaching and assisting others in the performance field. Having discovered the ability to sight-read piano music when I was in Elementary school, I began to accompany singers and musical productions. My interest in performing on stage revealed my love for acting and dance. Intensely pursing dance, I have a wealth of knowledge from many top-leading dance schools throughout the USA. My experience progressed into performing on Broadway, as well as at Radio City Music Hall, and other venues definitive of the pinnacle of the stage performance entertainment industry. Each experience has culminated in fleshing out the soul of my character, and it is my belief that performance has this power of transformation and illumination. I take into account the person as a whole, and encourage the development of one's own unique voice; through such work, Being will prove to be effortless, enjoyable, and fulling.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
