Deep Ellum is home to many clubs where budding guitarists can gain exposure and experience with live performance. While larger venues such as the House of Blues showcase the talents of many different professional musicians, The Afters, The Toadies, and (most notably) ZZ-Top all started playing in the small venues within the Dallas music scene.
Dallas is most well known for its gospel-funk, rock, country and coffeehouse styles of music. Dallas Baptist University and the University of North Texas, both located in Dallas, have some of the best graduate programs for Music Business and Recording in the nation, ranking only behind Belmont and Julliard. Dallas offers the opportunity for musicians of all levels to not only increase their abilities, but also their careers.
