Clare B. Madison, WI

About Clare

I grew up as a Suzuki violin student in rural Washington state. I received a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Central Washington University. I then moved to London for an academic year to study one-on-one with a violin teacher there. Following my time in London I lived in Seattle, WA and performed as a freelancer and also taught extensively. I am now working on my final year of a Master of Music degree at UW-Madison. *** Lesson Details *** My teaching method draws on the Suzuki method, but also includes ideas and repertoire from other methods and influences. My favorite parts of the Suzuki method are the emphasis on learning by ear and the belief that music should be taught to improve people's lives not just to produce competition-winning professional musicians. I ...

Kristen B. Madison, WI

About Kristen

I want to dispel the myth that only a select few are "gifted" with beautiful voices. Singing is like a sport; it is a skill requiring refined muscular coordination, which anyone can improve with practice and focused instruction. My teaching experience encompasses students of all ages and abilities. My specialty is in classical voice, with a focus in opera and art song. I get a deep feeling of satisfaction from watching my students achieve their personal singing goals, and have sent many on to receive top ratings at vocal competitions and college music scholarships. *** Lesson Details *** My students describe me as "strict but nice". I encourage my students to set their expectations high, and then provide the tools to reach those goals over time. I love to work with ...

Excellent ability to teach the new or accomplished vocalist.

Kristen is wonderful, she is able to make her instructions understandable to the beginner and inspire him to try new things. It's refreshing to see my young son focusing his style with a beautiful classical edge.

Knowledgeable and intuitive teacher

Kristen did a great job helping me prepare for an audition in a very short period of time. I am new to singing so we started from the ground up. Her lessons were well thought out and her approach was a good balance of encouragment and pushing me to do my best.

Clay L. Middleton, WI

About Clay

BORN into an artistic family, 25-year-old alto saxophonist Clay L. has been enthralled by music from a very young age. Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Clay began his musical journey by playing the drums as a toddler, and then moved to cello and piano, after which he settled on his instrument of choice, the alto saxophone, at age 12. In high school, with the help of his father and some friends, Clay discovered the music of Charlie Parker, and soon realized that there was no turning back. Over time and after much practice, Clay became a prominent player at his high school and the local Madison jazz scene, where he studied with legend Richard Davis. In 2007, Clay was awarded a full-tuition scholarship to the renowned Berklee College of Music, and since then, he has been a busy player in ...

Brilliant Saxophonist and an Educator

Mr Lyons was the best music teacher I ever had. He taught me from the bottom up, keep referring to the jazz harmony while we were focusing on jazz improvisation concepts. I had very bad habits and limited vocabulary and he sensed my forte and week points like Yoda and guided me through over past few months and it's been fantastic. I highly recommend him. He is the real deal.
John S. Madison, WI

About John

I have a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies with voice as my primary instrument from Western Michigan University, one of the best of such programs in the world. Along with my vast jazz experience, I have over 8 years of classical voice under my belt as well as the ability to teach beginner to intermediate piano, guitar. and trombone. I cater each lesson to the interests and needs of the student while building a musical foundation that will serve them for years to come. Do you need to prepare an audition? Do you want to make the top choir next year? Do you want to be a gigging musician who can hold his or her own on any stage? We may be a perfect fit.

Jack is a great teacher who really tailors each of his lessons to suit my needs. I learn something new and exciting every time I take a lesson, and he has helped me boost my confidence as a performer. I can't think of a better person to take lessons with!
Reed L. Madison, WI

About Reed

I love helping people learn how to play guitar...it's that simple, I believe that if you truly want to know how to play, that it will become as easy as anything you've ever enjoyed! I like helping people enjoy themselves while learning! I've been playing acoustic and electric guitars for about 25 years, and I love to help teach people how to get started playing on their own. It's important for me to help clients figure out what they'd like to learn and where they're at currently as a starting point. One of my biggest goals is to teach people how to learn beyond just having me as a teacher, how to take it from there, and make it happen on their own.
