About Me

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will bring my own guitar and amp

*** Specialties ***
I am fluent in every possible style. At some point I have performed in every type of band and expose my students to many different styles and techniques. I recently got off tour with a country band from Nashville, but have performed jazz, metal, rock, blues, soul, classical, fusion. I specialize in those students who really want to put in the time to seriously learn their instrument, but if you want to have fun just playing by the campfire that's cool too. I'm cool, laid back and love a good laugh. I have taught hundreds of students on all levels and styles over the years and to answer your question yes anyone can play if they invest the time needed to learn and yes you are gonna have clumsy fingers from the start. lol

Subjects Taught

ACT, ACT English, ACT Math, ACT Reading, ACT Science, ACT Test Prep, Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Analytical Geometry, AP Calculus, Arithmetic, Arrangement and Composition, Audition Prep, Basic Math, Bible Studies, Calculus, Composition, Discrete Math, Ear Training, French, Gaming, GRE, Linear Algebra, Math, Microsoft Word, Music Performance, Music Theory, Piano, Pre Algebra, Songwriting, Trigonometry

About Me

I have had a fairly diverse musical background, including playing with bands and orchestras, as well as participating in choral groups and opera. I have a master's degree in music performance for wind conducting, and a bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on piano performance. I have taught private lessons off and on for several years now but have always been successful wherever I went.

I love music, which should be obvious because if I didn't I wouldn't be writing this now! I also have a real passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others, both failures and successes. I believe everyone has creative potential, and I believe music is a real universal art form that anyone can tap into if they want. Making and creating music should also be fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep my lessons professional but comfortable too. I don't like yelling at students for messing up or anything like that. I always have an agenda but am willing to adjust and compromise if the situation dictates to. If you don't have a curriculum in mind, I will do my best to find one that fits you as a student best. My initial goals are to make sure the basics of reading music and performing are set so that no matter what musical avenue you eventually want to pursue, you can be successful at it. I do specialize in classical music but enjoy creating and playing other genres as well.

I now also offer lessons online, as well as tutoring in most math areas!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano keyboard at my home.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect students to have their own instruments as needed, as well as music paper, pencils, etc. I may be able to provide some of those materials on occasion as well as some books/recordings, but will by and large expect students to purchase those for themselves.

*** Specialties ***
I am much more familiar with classical styles and Broadway. My music writing style tends to be somewhere between neo-classical and avant-garde.

Subjects Taught

Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar, Blues Guitar, Guitar, Harmonica, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Songwriting

About Me

My name is Rusty, I have been a professional guitarist for 25 years. I have managed many of the area's largest music stores and a Certified *Fender Guitar Technician for both Electric and Acoustic instruments. The experience with other musicians on stage and in the studio is without parallel. A "school" cannot duplicate the "real world" experience of a professional musician. I have "rocked", for a living and performed over 2000 shows. I understand how to help you play the guitar, a true students education is much broader than what you can learn from a book, and I can help you understand the guitar in a practical and logical way. I can show you how to become a "guitar player" - not just how to "play the guitar". I learned being a guitar player is more than where to put your fingers. I want you to talk, share and ask questions and be excited about playing, I can help you accomplish your goals. A true education prepares and introduces and exposes a student to a broad range of experiences, learns the history, and how to use this accumulation of physical and mental skill to accomplish something. Music is as diverse as the musician who plays it, and cannot be categorized. I look forward to teaching each student in a way that excites and caters to your needs. I sincerely hope to have the opportunity to help you discover what is inside and encourage your desire. The journey may not always be easy, but it is well worth the trip.
Thank You!
Russell "Rusty"

*** Lesson Details ***
I want to make our time together something that you will look forward to each week. The guitar is a very expressive and diverse instrument. My goal as your instructor is helping you reach your own goal. I teach each student in an individual way based on your interest, and my assessment of how to help you reach those goals, every lesson is time YOUR time! I take time before each lesson planning our time together. Commit 3 months and you will be amazed at what you can accomplish, 6 months and you'll begin to play through songs, after a year you will look back with pride and realize how much you have learned. I consider myself "laid back" and easy to talk too, but I will encourage you to accomplish what I know you can. When you put forth effort forth, and follow your lesson plans, you will have a great experience! ~Rusty

*** Studio Equipment ***
HOME: lessons in dedicated music room, guitars, amps, bass guitar, music stand, cords, cables, picks, tuners, stand.....

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide any materials and or equipment relative to the area of study for myself in addition to the student should that situation present itself.

*** Specialties ***
Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Blues, and Country. I teach "slide" guitar for those students who are interested in learning more about "delta-blues" and rock guitar utilizing the slide in style very similar to Z.Z. Top.
