Jonathan C. Cincinnati, OH

Subjects Taught

Broadway Singing, Choir, Classical Voice, Gospel Singing, Jazz Voice, Musical Theater, Music Performance, Opera Voice, Singing, Vocal Training

About Me

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide sheet music for beginners (first year). After that I would expect the student to seek out and purchase their own repertoire (with guidance from me). They must have a piano in their home - if not, we can work out another location to meet.

*** Specialties ***
Singing is singing, regardless of genre - it is the different application of the same technique that results in a different sound. Singing is universal. What an opera singer vs. a music theater singer work on will be very similar over the course of study. We learn much from the study of repertoire we are not as familiar with. All students will benefit from a variety of classical and popular pieces.

How do we achieve this? Together we will aim for an evenness of vowel production, striving for consistency from one note to the next. Within the context of repertoire, we are encouraged to use the text and meaning of the words to our advantage, and we aim to bring out our inner expressiveness through self discovery.

We use a variety of methods to achieve this, including:
- relevant vocalises and excercises
- picking repertoire that realizes both artistic and technical goals
- encouraging active listening to a variety of styles

Subjects Taught

Classical Voice, Jazz Voice, Musical Theater, Music Performance, Opera Voice, Singing, Vocal Training

About Me

Jaclyn is an accomplished musician who is active throughout the Arts in Greater Cincinnati. She has recently returned to teaching voice after years of performing. Jaclyn currently offers vocal training for beginning to intermediate singers in a variety of styles. A detailed description of her experience is highlighted below.

**Vocal Training**

Jaclyn is a professional mezzo-soprano who's career has spanned several genres throughout the United States and Europe. For 11 seasons she has been a resident singer for the Cincinnati Opera in over 30 productions as a member of the core chorus. From traditional grand opera to complex contemporary works her vocal skills are constantly growing as they adapt to each new work assigned. Some of Jaclyn's additional classical voice credits include principle and soloist roles with her alma-mater, Northern Kentucky University, as well as the Sorg and Whitewater Opera companies, Cincinnati May Festival, Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, and the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria to name a few.

Jaclyn's classical vocal training has given her the dexterity to cross into other genres of music. She spent several years performing musical reviews and jazz in dinner theaters and on cruise ships. She was the lead vocalist for Swingtime, a 20 piece big band, with whom she sang for the opening of the Rosemary Clooney Museum. Jaclyn has also performed in musicals with Regional Theatre companies and community groups. In high school and college Jaclyn won several prestigious vocal competitions.

Jaclyn believes that traditional vocal training is important to the development of her students. She has a flexible teaching style that combines technique, stage presence, and professionalism while allowing students to focus on a specific musical genre if they choose. She teaches students at beginning and intermediate levels from ages 7 and up. Jaclyn has a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and draws from her education and experience to prepare students for competitions, auditions, and performances.
