About Me

I love music! And I love working with people, so why not do something that involves both? Although I'm fairly new at teaching, I've been creating music my entire life...

First of all, I believe that music has the power to change the world. Now that may sound a little crazy, but I have experienced that power firsthand and seen what it can do. Two of my favorite quotes read: “Nothing is better than music…It has done more for us than we have the right to hope for,” and “Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.” Music can express so much that it’s impossible to put into words. It can fathom the deepest grief, as well as the most joyous elations; it can make your heart race with trepidation or evoke tears as you listen to a song so sweet and light.

About Me

My name is Steve, I graduated from McNally Smith College of Music in 1993. I have performed professionally and been a teacher for 21 years. During that time I have taught not only individual lessons but also worked as an instructor within the Anoka-Hennepin School District 11. I am well versed in every genre of music: blues, rock, jazz, country, pop, classical, hard rock, punk, heavy metal, R & B, classic rock, swing, etc.

About Me

Mark H. has been a professional teacher, musician, and singer for over 20 years. He has taught Voice, Guitar, Acting, Bass Guitar, & Music Theory to students of all ages in various settings ranging from private lessons to college classrooms. He is a fun, experienced, passionate teacher willing to work with students of all levels from beginners to professionals. Mark absolutely loves helping all his students achieve their individual goals.

Mark has performed in musical groups that have played locally and toured nationally. He has opened for national recording artists such as Eddie Money, Blackfoot, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Molly Hatchet, and Shooting Star (to name just a few). He has extensive songwriting experience and has composed original songs for various local bands. He has also produced musical scores for theatrical productions at the University of Minnesota, Harmon Place Players, and the Rhombus Theater Company.

About Me

I got my first guitar as a Christmas gift when I was 12 years old, I took a few lessons, practiced a lot, and by the time I was 15, was playing around town with different bands. Although I had some classical training in piano, I learned to play guitar by copying what I heard on records. I made a lot of mistakes learning this way. One reasons I am passionate about teaching is because I can help beginners to avoid making some of the same mistakes I did.

After many years of playing in rock/blues and garage bands, I decided to pursue a degree in music. While enrolled in the university, I sharpened my performance skills, developed a solid knowledge of music theory, and studied jazz improvisation. My knowledge of music theory allows me to explain abstract concepts and ideas to my students in a language that they can understand. I enjoy helping people to gain a better understanding of music in this way.

I am a 26 year old drummer with 17 years of experience spanning all genre's and styles of music. Countless hours of stage performance with bands. A love, drive and passion for music and drumming you won't find in any other instructor! Multiple studio recordings both behind the mixing board and behind the drum set. 7 years of teaching experience, realizing the importance of setting a unique curriculum for each student tailored to fit each individual's goals and interests. I have been involved in bands ever since middle school, starting with rock, and moving on to perform in country bands, hip-hop performances, indie rock bands, and progressive rock bands. A strong knowledge of jazz techniques and music theory as well as the ability to read drum sheet music make me a perfect instructor for any student.

Hello there! My name is Cassandra. (You can call me Cassie.) I have been a piano teacher for 4 years. I started taking piano lessons myself when I was ten, and have been playing in recitals and performing in various bands—jazz/blues, rock, and more recently Americana—ever since! I love helping my students to grow as individuals as they learn to be excellent at playing, dedicated to study and practice, and—especially—love and appreciate music.

Beth specializes in teaching improvisation and has a love for nurturing the development of any up and coming composer, performer, or hobbyist. Students with Beth typically study the music of Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, Film, TV, as well as Classical styles.

Beth graduated with a Bachelors in Film Scoring from Berklee College of Music in 2005. While in Boston, she served as the Principal Conductor for the College Repertory Orchestra. Beth is an active percussionist and pianist in a variety of musical settings performing and composing primarily for live groups in the Twin Cities area. She is also a keyboard instructor and show director at a local rock music school serving students ages 8-18.

Her original works have premiered professionally on the set of theater productions, the stages symphonic band concerts, radio commercials, and several independent films. She's currently a percussionist with an afro-Cuban/ Brazilian jazz ensemble as well as an independent film composer for films...

I strongly believe that anyone can learn to sing, and my goal is to dispel the myth that only a select few are "gifted" with beautiful voices. Singing is like a sport; it is about muscular coordination, which with practice and focused instruction, is something that anyone can improve! It is my job as a teacher to help you choose repertoire and to give useful feedback which will build your voice and your confidence.

My teaching experience encompasses students of all ages and abilities, some as young as 12, to those well into adulthood. I get a deep feeling of satisfaction from watching my students achieve their personal singing goals, and have sent many on to receive top ratings at vocal competitions and college music scholarships.

About Me

I began taking piano lessons on a whim in middle school, but it didn't take long before I realized I was completely in love with music. I enjoy playing and teaching many types of music, from classical to rock to hymns and church music. I learned to play by ear at the same time I learned to sight read, and both approaches have helped me to learn and enjoy the music I play.

I graduated last December with a BA in Music Performance from North Central University, here in the Twin Cities. I have been teaching piano lessons for the last 4 years, as well as directing a children's choir. Watching other people learn to play music is one of the greatest rewards I've received.
