I've appeared on records with dozens of NYC area rock and pop bands, and perform as a classical and jazz trombonist in all five boroughs and New Jersey.
I listen to and play all kinds of music from Beethoven to Stravinsky, Arcade Fire to Beyonce, James Brown to Snoop Dogg/Lion. I have had the pleasure to share the stage with rockers Dee Snider (Twisted Sister), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and jazz greats Maynard Ferguson, Jimmie Lunceford, Conrad Herwig, "Blue" Lou Marini, and Jeff Coffin (Flecktones).
I've played acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, violin, cello, and string bass in virtually all different styles. Some of my favorite recent projects have been:
-Quilty (Pavement-style hard rock band)
-The Nevermind Orchestra (brass band that covers Nirvana tunes; I play trombone)
-Chill Sons (my own band for which I write songs, play guitar, and sing)
-Manhattan Symphonie (an entertaining symphony orchestra featuring soloists on piano, violin, saw, urdu, and tap shoes)
I received a BM in trombone from University of North Texas, an MM in brass pedagogy from Ohio University, and am currently a DMA student in bass trombone at Rutgers University.
It is a treat to share music with others, and my lessons are fun, challenging, and engaging.
Thanks for stopping by to look at my profile! Let's hang out and do music things.
Music Performance, Music Theory, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba
I've been playing trumpet for just about 15 years. I studied trumpet at a college level at Lindenwood University, and have held top positions in the university's music ensembles, in spite of not being a music major. I will be graduating with my degree in Chemistry in 2013.
Outside of college, I play professionally with several groups, and sub in other ensembles whenever I can.
I have the most fun playing trumpet when I get to play higher and louder, so I specialize in jazz lead playing, and I rather enjoy the cover band gigs that keep me above the staff for hours at a time.
I have had the chance to study with a number of excellent world-class musicians, and I try to take the lessons I have learned from them and apply them towards helping my students. I'm trying to avoid name-dropping, but if you sign up for lessons, I promise to tell you all about it!
Also, I'm now doing online lessons too!

Berk S., trombone, is a performer and educator living in the Houston area. Berk earned his M.M. from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and a B.M. from Oberlin Conservatory where he studied with James DeSano. As a professional he has developed his goal to serve as an advocate for the arts through creative performances that resonate with a 21st century audience, interactive community outreach, and education that reflects both the time-honored traditions of Western classical music and the realities facing today’s young musicians. His musical experiences have taken him across the globe, from Saint Peters Basilica, Vatican City with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas performing a Mozart Mass under the direction of Helmuth Rilling, to Carnegie Hall with Maestro Valery Gergiev and Ravel's Bolero. Berk has toured the Western Hemisphere extensively, teaching and performing in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay with the Youth Orchestra of the Americas directed by Carlos Miguel Prieto. In the United States, Berk has performed with the Akron and Youngstown Symphony Orchestras in Ohio and the Aspen Festival Orchestra, directed by David Zinman and Robert Spano. He has also played bass trombone for Carl Topilow and the Firelands Symphony Orchestra during its 2009-2010 season. In the spring of 2010 he was selected as a finalist in the International Trombone Association Marsteller Competition. As an avid contemporary musician Berk has commissioned and performed many new creative works. Collaborations include “Catch” by Kevin Dee and “Pink to Blue” by Ryan Lester (2010-2012). A grant awarded to him by the Hilda and Hershel Rich Family Endowment for Student Community Service funded the premier of "Procession," a trombone concerto by Seung-ah Oh, recipient of the Buma Toonzetters Prize. In addition he has composed and performed his own music in collaboration with Houston based Da Camera of Houston, Two Star Symphony, and the Shepherd School Composers Outside the Lines:An Un-Concert. Berk is an avid educator and supporter of creative teaching methods, maintaining a large studio of private low brass students in Houston. Many of his students have gone on to pursue music professionally. Berk plans on returning to Ecuador this summer to teach with the Sociedad Fondo Jovenes Talentos in Guayaquil and perform the Tomasi Trombone Concerto.

I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar classes in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. More recently I've also started teaching online lessons via Skype and Google Helpouts with Take Lessons as well.
I received my Bachelor of Music Education with Honors from New Mexico State University in 2008. During the course of my degree I had a special focus on classical guitar and composition, but completed a program certifying teachers for band, orchestra, choir, and general music from kindergarten to high school. I also received my Level 1 Orff certification (music education for small children) from the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.
While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.
In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. This spring, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.
On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

I am an active freelance hornist in the Chicagoland area. Beginning my studies at the age of nine, I have been playing the horn for 15 years. After finishing high school in Houston, Texas, I relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where I began my undergraduate work at Louisiana State University under the instruction of Seth Orgel of the Atlantic Brass Quintet.
Upon completion of my Bachelor of Music degree in 2011, l moved to Chicago, IL where I spent the next two years earning a master's degree in music performance. During this time I studied with Dale Clevenger, long time Principal Horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
During my career, I have performed in a wide variety of settings including orchestral performances, musicals, operas, chamber music, and solo performances.
