About Me

About VOICE: I firmly believe that with the right training, anyone can sing! We all have the instrument built-in after all! Are you tone deaf? I can fix that. Crack on high notes? I can fix that. Nasal? Hoarse? Can't hold long notes? All of these are common vocal problems that can be easily be solved through guidance and practice. Trust me, no one ever regretted taking voice lessons!

About PIANO: How often do you sit down at a piano and wish you could just place your hands on the piano and magically create beautiful music? Piano is a challenging skill, but certainly not impossible. Learning to play the piano, even if it's never mastered, is such an incredible joy. Learning piano helps you to improve so many other skills as well, such as singing, any other instrument, and even math!

About ME: After completing my Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance at North Park University in Chicago, I moved here to NYC in 2010 to pursue my loves of music, acting, and education. Currently, I work as a Teaching Artist through Wingspan Arts, act in short films, and sing in concerts, operas, and musical theater productions around the city. I have been teaching acting, modeling, voice, and piano to children and adults of all ages for the last seven years. My goal is to professionally fuse my passion for music, theater, and education while continuing to learn, grow, and share the beauty and magic of the arts with others.

In my free time I enjoy movies, Broadway shows, cooking, exploring New York City, rock climbing, and swimming with sharks!

*** Lesson Details ***
For kids and adults alike, learning either voice or piano, I believe that you learn a lot more, and a lot faster when you feel comfortable and are having fun. With me, you will find an instructor who is patient, professional, motivating, challenging, and above all, encouraging. And fun. Did I mention fun?!

For voice students I like to use a mix of Broadway, Classical, and Popular music, depending on your needs and desires as a singer. I always assign a "teaching song" (a song that is good for training your voice) and a "fun song" (a song of your choice that you would like to sing just for fun!).

For piano students I like to use the Piano Adventures series by Faber & Faber. These are fun musical pieces, most of which are adapted from familiar classical works that have been arranged to teach you a certain technique.

For both, I always incorporate a balance of technique, music theory, and creative interpretation.

For acting students, it completely depends on your goals! We will work on different types of scripts, audition technique, and business skills for getting started in the real world!

Each lesson will likely involve warm-ups, games, reviews, new concepts, rehearsal, coaching, assignments, and rewards.

During our lessons, we will set short-term and long-term goals based on what you want to accomplish as a musician, what you expect from me, and what I feel you should be working on. I believe rewards are definitely appropriate!

Each one of the you has your own unique voice, hands, and ideas of what music means to you. My job is to get to know you and your musical self, and then design exercises and songs that will specifically fulfill your needs as a musician. Skill and technique are extremely important when learning to sing or play a musical instrument, but we must never forget what drew us to music in the first place! While we work on technique, we will also be discussing creativity, and the art of self expression, and have tons of fun in the process!

*** Lesson Details ***
With beginning students I am very laid back and patient and believe strongly that in the play of games and experiments technique will develop and manifest. As the student becomes more advanced I become more demanding as do the materials. As an acting teacher I have an advanced capacity to take students along all the way to professional and beyond. I am a member of the Actors Studio, the performing unions and studied since childhood at ACT and then all over the world including The National in London. In Singing and Piano I can be valuable to the beginning level and will want to send them to another teacher as they progress beyond my ability. In dance I have a wide knowledge and can teach several forms as well as history and materials. In Juilliard I specialized in historical dance of the French Court which is also known as pre-ballet. At present I am studying Swing and Tango and can teach that in the beginning levels. I can also teach Ballet and a few forms of Modern Dance.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Sterling Spinet Piano here in my studio. It is wonderful for beginning students in Piano and Voice. My studio in the front room of my home is spacious and holds a strong library of materials for my acting students. There is also sufficient space for moving about and practicing and performing monologues, songs and dances.

There is a cat here too so if you are terribly allergic remember to take something. Alternatively, we can schedule at your place or a professional studio. He is a short hair and most people with mild allergies will be fine.

*** Travel Equipment ***
just a space to work in - we can create a work space out of any space.

*** Specialties ***
i teach a combination of classical acting technique with american sense memory and relaxation skills. i teach creative discovery in combination with classical devices so the student can discover their own artistry and also know actual classical devices for accomplishing things.

About Me

Originally from Miami, Florida, born to Cuban parents, I first attended the University if Pennsylvania, where I received a degree in marketing and communications from The Wharton School, with a minor in theater arts. Upon graduation, I moved to Los Angeles and trained at the Tony-award winning South Coast Repertory. I was subsequently fortunate enough to attend the Juilliard School Drama Division, where I trained for 4 years in the following subjects: scene study, improv, physical comedy/clown, movement, singing, voice and speech. Some of my favorite productions while at Juilliard have been: Measure for Measure, Henry V, The Cripple of Inishmaan, Williams in Transit, Trust, and Balm in Gilead. In addition, I have also taught drama in several cities in the country and abroad, including New Orleans, Salt Lake City, Orlando, and even Antigua, Guatemala.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are designed for each particular student's need/desires. I tend to push students as I want them to not only grow as artists but as people. In fact, over the course of time, it is more important to use your art to grow into a sensitive human being, than it is to "win the Oscar" and be the "best actor out there." Much of what I do is meant for the student to bring a personal connection to the work.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room with seating for parents.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to provide the prop(s) necessary for scenes or monolgoues.

*** Specialties ***
I am familiar with the Stanislavski method, clown techniques, Shakespearean text, Chekhov. In terms of the speaking voice, I specialize in the Edith Skinner method of speaking with distinction, and am familiar with the work of Arthur Lessac and Catherine Fitzmaurice.

About Me

I have been a voice teacher for over twenty- five years. My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal as well as vocal training through the Feldekrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I believe we all have something distinctive that can be developed and expressed through the voice. I work to help the student discover their individual and unique sound. I give them tools to gain the ability and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges that students face both in studying voice and performance since I have been a professional singer for many years. Through my personal experience in the field I coach the student through the obstacles they may come up against. My students have gone on to become recording artists,Broadway performers, Blues and Cabaret artists, performing in concerts, radio, film and TV.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the students individual process of learning. My lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal exercise come next, then when the student is fully warmed up we will begin to work on songs. It is important that the student be part of the process of picking material since the more they personally respond to the material the more apt they are to be engaged in their lessons and the more quickly they will learn. After three to six months they will understand the fundamentals of breathing and relaxation and its importance to proper vocal training. They will have begun the process of extending their range and will understand the principles of performance in song.

*** Studio Equipment ***
home- 10 minutes away from Manhattan with piano, seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.

*** Specialties ***

Acting, Broadway Singing, Singing, Speaking Voice

About Me

Gabriel W. ("Musiciano") is a fiery and passionate vocal instructor proficient in the fields of acting, singing and vocal development. A professional singer, actor and teacher with a BFA in Theater Arts. Gabriel doesn'™t just possess a formal college education, but more importantly an "informal" education based on his experiences on the stage and in the studio in the real world. Gabriel'™s approach is direct, simple and to the core getting straight to the heart of the matter: developing the voice from the inside out by breaking things down to the essentials.

An expert at creating vocal warm-ups, vocal exercises, and vocal cool-downs to keep the voice in the best shape possible. With a passion for psychology, this is your guy for great insights and advice on how to cultivate a positive attitude and create and survive a career in the world of the performing arts. With a kind and compassionate yet stern and strong tone, Gabriel will work with you to develop the focus and dedication necessary to get your voice beyond what you even knew was possible. Gabriel is available to teach Monday through Saturday.

*** Lesson Details ***
Regardless of the genre you sing, developing your voice with Gabriel's help will improve your tone, range, power and overall ability. You can expect to become a much better singer without losing any of your personal and unique traits.

The approach isn't a technical or mysterious one, it's all about re-learning the facts about how the voice functions best. You can expect to clear away a lot of confusions regarding how the voice works and to take away the guesswork from the vocal development process. If you want to improve your voice quickly, being guided by someone who understands how it all works and by someone who was where you are today and is now closer to where you want to be in the future is the best idea. Gabriel is that guy!

Gabriel's approach is quite simple yet very effective at developing the entire voice. There are two basic levels that every singer must address. The first one is addressing the condition of the body and voice and the second one is addressing the functioning of the voice and body.

I - Silent Foundation

The silent foundation refers to the condition of your instrument as it is silent. If we are looking at the body as an instrument that sings, we first have to make sure that our instrument is in good condition. How healthy is your instrument? Is it well rested, well hydrated and loose? Or is it tired, dehydrated and tense? As you could guess, the condition of your instrument will have a significant impact on the quality of the sounds you make. So the first thing to be addressed is how your instrument is before it starts making sound.

II - Conditioning of Singing Behaviors

This is when we get busy. Once we have a well rested, healthy, hydrated and relaxed instrument we can start working it out. The goal is to condition our singing behaviors to be reflexive, reliable and strong. The way to do this is through a series of vocal exercises that will condition your voice to respond to the desires of your heart. Whatever it is that you want to express will be possible once your instrument is conditioned to the point where there is no gap between what you want to express and your ability to do so. Learning to sing is all about learning how to express yourself without barriers. You should be able to develop enough range, power, control and skill so that you can express your heart without feeling like you'™re incapable of achieving what you pursue. To achieve these abilities training is often necessary.
