I am a soprano with a degree in vocal performance and I am looking to build a fun and supportive studio in the Bay Area! A little bit about myself first: I have been singing since I was six years old. I joined choir first and then started taking private lessons when I was thirteen. I knew that I wanted to be a singer from the time I was a kid and never looked back! When I was twenty, I moved to Orange County to study classical vocal performance at the University of California at Irvine. I love to teach music because it enables me to share with others what I love to do most, creating music. I have been teaching music for almost six years. I first started teaching guitar and eventually began teaching bass, piano, synthesizer, music recording, and music production.

Here is a little bit about what I do outside of teaching music:

I am a musician, music producer, sound healer, songwriter, sound designer, and performer. As a six year old, I started taking classical piano lessons. A few years later, I started taking guitar lessons and singing in the school choir. I joined a heavy metal band in middle school, Copperhead, as a guitarist and continued taking my guitar lessons. I picked up my first guitar about 10 years ago and have been studying and playing ever since. Having a strong interest in composing and writing original music I gigged regularly (3-4 shows a month) performing original material in a rock band in the East Bay until I moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. At Berklee I received rigorous training in traditional and Jazz music theory, Music technology, and guitar performance. Currently residing in the East Bay, I continue to compose, perform, and teach guitar lessons to all ages.

I love to teach- over 14 years of teaching piano and voice students, I know that music is one of the most fulfilling and joyful activities human beings engage in. I have helped many students, of all ages and abilities, to experience greater satisfaction from their practice and/or performance, and to experience an excited intellectual curiosity to learn more.

I was originally a classical pianist, but in 1997 I began study of jazz arranging and piano. Following this, I spent 8 years as a touring musician in various bands, traveling mostly around the eastern half of the country. With the dream of writing orchestral music, I then returned to school at Jacobs School of Music (Indiana University) to study classical music composition. I got the opportunity to write for large ensembles there, and then became so interested in experimental music that I decided to come to Mills College, where I am currently teaching as a T.A. and continuing composition study.

Having been a performing musician from the age of 10, I have experience in several instruments and almost every genre of music. With a bachelor's degree in flute performance, and most of a master's in the same (to be completed in the next year), my primary focus has been on classical music in flute, with an emphasis in orchestral playing and contemporary music.

I began focusing on singing a few years after flute, to accompany my guitar playing, and began writing songs in the pop/folk genre. I have been singing both solo and with choirs for the last 10 years. The human voice and the flute are remarkably similar in the way the body is used to produce sound, and I use very similar techniques when focusing on breath control and support for both.

Luckily so did my teachers, and I have always felt deeply indebted to them for teaching me. I have 15 years experience teaching and playing drums and latin percussion (congas, timbales, bongo) in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in my career as a performer I have played with everyone from Slash (rock), Donna Summer (RnB), to Jesus Diaz (salsa). I have studied classical and jazz percussion at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music and the esteemed Manhattan School of Music, as well as an extensive tutorial en Cuba, where I studied latin percussion at the national school of art.
