About Me

Originally from Chicago, I attended Chicago Musical College for 2 years before moving to Calif. and receiving my B.A. in music from Cal. State Northridge. I also have an M.A. in Education from there. I have been a band director in public schools for over 40 years. My bands have won over 50 1st place awards in music competitions. I have been playing keyboard professionally since the age of 14. I truly enjoy working with both kids and adults on a one on one basis, and provide a relaxed and friendly, yet goal-oriented experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
In each lesson, students will work on technique, music theory, and learn pieces (both from the method book and from supplementary material). I choose material for each student to use based on age, ability, and interest. I don't use a "one size fits all" curriculum. Although lessons are relaxed, I do expect students to do their part and work on the assigned materials at home. In addition,I enjoy playing along with students as soon as possible.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Room: upright piano, chair, sports memorabilia, room for parents to sit in on lesson

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to provide instrument (except piano) and music (which I would select)

*** Specialties ***
Can teach any school band instrument and keyboard

Christopher C. Camarillo, CA

Subjects Taught

Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Piano, Singing, Songwriting

About Me

Hi! My name is Christopher, or Chris for short. I am a composer, arranger, pianist, vocalist, and private tutor. I have taught private lessons in classical and contemporary piano performance, vocal performance, guitar performance, music theory, and musicianship to local students for the past 3 years. I currently attend CSUN'€™s school of music where I am a year away from obtaining my Bachelor'€™s of Music in Composition. My other experience includes teaching Confirmation classes to teenagers at St. Jude'€™s church for 2 years, and teaching English to Japanese high school students through the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.

*** Lesson Details ***
My philosophy when it comes to doing anything with music is that it should be fun! Whether you're practicing a piece, playing with a band, writing something new, or even learning music theory, music is primarily about enjoying yourself and the others around you. The same is true of my lessons!

The best way to ensure that you enjoy yourself is to learn what you want to learn and play what you want to play. In addition to a standard curriculum, I want you to tell me what kind of music you're interested in and what kind of pieces you want to play! Do you love classic rock? Do you love pop? Blues? Jazz? Folk tunes? Opera? Or maybe you're a lover of the classical masters? Whatever the case may be, my number one goal is to make sure you're having fun while you develop your new talents.

I'm comfortable teaching students as young as 7 years of age, although I can teach even younger if they are especially well-behaved.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I am part of a local music studio in Oxnard that is equipped with everything we'll need for our lessons; however, students MUST at least have a small electric keyboard to practice on.

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Blues, Jazz, Improv, Original composition

Mike T. Simi Valley, CA

Subjects Taught

Drum, Music Performance, Music Theory, Piano, Songwriting

About Me

My name is Mike T. and I'm a professional musician of 10 years. I started playing piano at the age of 8 and studied classical, rock, pop, ragtime, blues, and impressionistic styles. At the age of 11 I got my first drum set and started jamming to bands like Metallica, Foo Fighters, Blink 182, NOFX, Black Sabbath and of course Led Zepplin. By the time I reached the age of 21 I was a well established, mutli-instrumentalist.
I then attended Musician's Institute in Hollywood, CA where I honed my skills as a drummer and overall musician. I can now play all styles of drumming from Rock and Metal, to Latin and Jazz, to Reggae and Funk..you name it. I also studied Harmony & Theory, Ear Training, Technique, Sight Reading, and Performance. I graduated in 2010 and never looked back. I've toured the country with numerous rock bands, recorded many albums, and taught hundreds of students.
I've been teaching now for 5 years, and let me tell you I've seen it all. From a crying 5 year old who cant play a scale to a born natural with skills only a prodigy should possess. My main goal as a teacher is to intrigue my students with the art of music. I keep my lessons fun, interesting, and informative. Each one of my students receives a custom lesson plan based on their skill level and musical goals. I'm very personable with my students and always make sure they enjoy what they learn. I teach students how to play songs they desire as well as basic progressions and song structure. I also teach the importance of time keeping, technique, reading, and performance.
So if you're looking for a great teacher with a commitment to his students and a passion for the shaping musical minds look no further. I'm the teacher for you.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm easy going and relaxed, yet strict when called for. I use all sorts of curriculum in my piano teaching, from beginner books to advanced classical pieces. I teach the importance of good technique, reading skills, rhythm, and improvisation. My goal for my piano students is to make them knowledgeable, skilled, and well-rounded individuals. With me as your teacher I can expand your musical mind and help you reach your goals.

For drums I teach basic grooves to complex rudiments and fills. I stress the importance of rhythm, groove, tone, technique, and reading charts in all of my lessons. You can pick out songs that you wanna learn and ill show you how to play them correctly. Drums are difficult for any person to pick up, but i make the process a while lot easier by catering to each student and pushing them to play their best. Practice makes perfect in this game.

*** Studio Equipment ***
drum set and keyboard at home

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide a drumset or keyboard if necessary

*** Specialties ***
For piano I specialize in classical, hip-hop/r&b, and modern rock.

For drums my specialty is rock, metal, jazz, reggae, pop, hip-hop/r&b, and funk.

About Me

Hello. I love to teach and I have devoted my life to obtaining the highest music education possible. Learning to play an instrument is fun but it is also challenging. My lessons consist of technique and general music training that include aural skills and music theory. My lessons are a lot of fun because I have high standards, but also maintain a light hearted atmosphere. I teach viola up until the masters level and violin to an intermediate level. My students have ranged in age from 4 to 35 years old and I feel that I can teach students at any age.

Currently I am the Lead String Teaching Artist for the Harmony Project Ventura and you will find other credentials below.

If you want to include learning to play the violin or viola in your life then I would be a great choice for a teacher. Thank you. Elisa
