FUN AND EFFECTIVE. My lessons are always tailored to the individual student, but all students learn music theory in addition to guitar. I am thorough, but not overly strict. And don't worry, it won't feel like homework.

I believe that music lessons should be fun for the student. If you enjoy the lessons, you will more likely enjoy practicing and will therefore achieve better results. So I make sure to include songs and tricks that the student really likes in the curriculum.

I use a variety of methods, depending on the student.

Within 6 months, my guitar students can expect to have a strong understanding of basic music theory and how to apply that knowledge to the guitar. They will know how to read music in both guitar tablature and standard notation. If they have practiced, they will be able to play complete songs that have been chosen along the way. More advanced students will find that they have improved technique, improved accuracy and control, improved tone, and stronger improvisational skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio is comfortable, and fully equipped with all the necessary tools for great lessons, including amps, cables, effects pedals, and audio/video recording equipment for those who wish to have a recorded copy of their lessons.

*** Specialties ***
The majority of my expertise in in classical guitar and electric rock guitar.

The best lessons I've ever had were lessons in which I walked away saying "Man, I never KNEW that!" and it's my goal for you have that experience, too. Whether its how to play that chord or write a melody, how to get the best sound out of those stomp boxes, or when genres like shoegazer and post-rock were invented and what they sound like... there's something to be learned in every lesson.

The most important benefit of taking lessons from me is my experience. I started teaching casually as a teenager and have followed every opportunity since. My passion for music has allowed me to teach private lessons (10+ years), middle school guitar class (including a guitar ensemble), and college-level music theory classes. Extensive experience in writing, recording, and performing has only helped that passion to grow. I've developed a method to blend theory with practice every step of the way, and make the journey fun!

Bass Guitar, Classical Guitar, Guitar

About Me

Hey everyone, my name is Greg. Some of you may know me as the lead guitar player from the metal band Allegaeon. What most of your don't know is I love teaching!! Here's a little bit more about myself:

I graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, with a Bachelors degree in classical guitar performance. I have a passion for a wide range of music including fingerstyle acoustic, classical, jazz, heavy metal and funk. I'm currently in the internationally known metal band Allegaeon, on Metal Blade records. I've been called accomplished composer, some songs of which have been released on €œFragments of Form and Function€ (2010), a record some critics have hailed as one of the best metal records of 2010, and one inews called "one of the greatest debut albums of all time". Our follow up record "Formshifter" broke at no. 2 on iTunes, and reached 3 Billboard charts. I've toured extensively throughout the continental US with Allegaeon, as well as the Midwest with classical ensembles and as a solo artist. I've also had an arrangement of Pink Floyd€™s €œAnother Brick in the Wall Pt. III€ featured on MTV by a group of my students.

My students have gone off to Berkeley School of Music, and the Peabody Conservatory. As well as done some nation wide touring supporting the band Yes.

I have been certified through the Suzuki Institute of Chicago, so I'm trained to teach your young ones as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm pretty laid back when it comes to teaching, and I have a lot pf patience. I pride myself in taking a pretty unique approach, in that I use the students interests to present the basics, and tailor the lesson to the goals and interests of that student.

I am Suzuki certified, and I have a BM in Guitar Performance from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. I perform and teach various styles of guitar music, from classical, to Michael Hedges fingerstyle acoustic, to rock and metal.

*** Studio Equipment ***
We usually sit at my dining table and go through the lesson each week. Students are welcome to bring an amp if they need one, however most students just play unplugged.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my gear, all I would require is a notebook from the student.

*** Specialties ***
I'm Suzuki certified, and have have my students go on to tour the US extensively. My arrangements have appeared on MTV's Made program, and I myself am a founding and current member of a international touring band.

Classical Guitar, Guitar, Music Theory

About Me

I love music. I love playing it, writing it, teaching it, listening to it, even analyzing the theory! I'm a bit (a huge bit) of a music nerd.

I've been playing piano since I was five years old, and guitar since eleven. I have a Bachelor's of Music Education, with classical guitar being my primary instrument. Recently, I have taught middle school orchestra and elementary general music, and have maintained private students because of my passion for teaching one-on-one. I have a particular knack for getting middle school-aged through adult students excited about new aspects of music.

My passion truly is to share music with others, whether that is through teaching private lessons, teaching in public school settings, composing, or simply bringing a friend to a concert.

Aside from music, I love being outside. Skiing, fly-fishing, and backpacking are some of my favorite things in the world.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although classical guitar is my primary strength, I am more than willing to teach any style that a student may want to learn. If you want to learn rock, blues, jazz, etc. I'd be thrilled to teach you that particular genre. To me, style is simply a vehicle to learn over-arching musical ideas and skills.

The most important skill that I can help students develop is reading music. If a student can read music, regardless of current technical ability, ambition, or musical preferences, they will be able to learn more music than I will ever be able to teach them. I make it my serious goal to teach myself out of a job, to give students the tools that they need to go out and learn as much as they possibly can (or want to), so that when our lessons eventually come to an end, they have a solid base from which to grow.

My personal style is fairly laid back. I am a very easy-going individual, but I do expect that my students practice. As long as a student is practicing and putting forth effort, I will bend over backwards to help them.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/guitars, stands, amps, and seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have my own guitar and books. I expect students to have their own guitar and be willing to buy books as well.
