Babak graduated from Shenandoah University Conservatory with a Bachelors in Jazz Studies (focus in jazz guitar) and a double minor in classical guitar and jazz piano.

Babak has always had interest in music. He began receiving piano instruction when he was seven. In middle school, he started to play piano with the choir, performing not only at his school, but also at several different venues.

In high school he began studying guitar. Babak became so infatuated with the instrument that he would practice for hours a day. By the end of his high school career, he was performing in two groups, a classical guitar ensemble and a jazz band. With the assistance of not only the high school guitar teacher, Keith Owens, but also a private instructor/performer in the Washington D.C. Area, Dave Cosby, he started to excel and auditioned for Shenandoah Conservatory.

At the age of 12, I knew I wanted to play guitar after watching a televised concert of the rock band ‘The Smashing Pumpkins’ performing their song “1979.” After my father bought me an electric guitar, I began terrorizing family and friends with my musical endeavors not knowing that playing and creating music would become a lifelong passion. I started playing the bar scene of rock, country, and bluegrass featuring his own compositions and popular cover tunes of the time.

I went on to study at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and studied classical guitar and jazz with Michael Mosley. I also studied composition briefly with John Allemeier. I studied jazz guitar at Berklee School of Music for a year, and finished my Masters at The Boston Conservatory, studying with Berit Strong. Hi everybody, I have been playing the guitar ever since I was a child. I also lived in a lot of different cities growing up so whichever new city I moved to my guitar came with me! While in high school in Paris, I performed in the band for various musicals, the jazz band and at an opening ceremony at the UNESCO. After high school I studied the classical guitar at l'Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, however I obtained my bachelor's degree in musicology from the University of Strasbourg where I graduated with honors and the Conservatory of Strasbourg where I studied the classical guitar and flamenco guitar. I grew up in a small town and began playing guitar at age 12. I was taught a few chords from friends and tried to learn songs from tabs on the Internet. After a couple years I realized the need for formal training, so I began taking classical guitar lessons. I was introduced to formal music instruction and my abilities really blossomed. Music has played a big role in my life ever since I was 4 and heard The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night." From that point on, I committed myself towards a life in music, soon after beginning lessons on classical guitar. Through high school I studied classical and jazz guitar at Philadelphia's esteemed Settlement Music School, and I subsequently attended New York University as a jazz studies major in both guitar and composition for a bachelors and masters degree.

As a teacher, I love to pair my academic knowledge of music with my decades of experience listening to and playing popular music ranging from rock and funk to bluegrass and hip hop.
