My daughter loves taking lessons with Athena. She takes the lessons seriously and expects the same of her students. My daughter is learning a lot and loving it. Athena has helped her feel positive about piano and motivated to practice and learn.

I had a totally different experience working with Eric. With me, he frequently started lessons late, ended them early and was totally checked out during our last couple of lessons. We had a lotta random convos early on and I liked him on a personal level but his teaching style just didn't work for me.

My teenage daughter is having a great experience being taught by Eric. He is very kind and patient and I have already seen tons of improvement in her playing after just a few lessons. We are a busy family and the convenience of the online classes is wonderful.

Overly impressed with Eric as a guitar teacher.
I was hesitant about taking lessons online but it worked out just fine.
Eric is extremely patient and knows how to play/teach about any song. I'm convinced he could teach any level player. As a beginner, I appreciate this.
I would say sign up, try it out. You'll be mad that you didn't!
Marco O. Sunnyside, NY

I studied classical for two years as an undergraduate student.

About Marco

I started playing guitar seriously at the age of 12 and have been a guitar teacher for 22 years. My first influences were rock and metal. In my later teens, I became very interested in other music genres such as jazz, fusion and classical. I began my formal music education as a Classical Guitar performance major, ultimately obtaining a Masters Degree in Music Composition from the Queens College Aaron Copland School of Music.

The road I have taken with music has been paved with many unexpected twists and turns. Throughout my many years of learning and making new discoveries, I have now arrived at a point where I am able to productively incorporate knowledge from various experiences with music and education into my own creativity and teaching. I never expect to stop learning or ...

Marco is one of the best teacher ever, I knew him way back in 1997 when I first came in to the state. At first, one of my friend was taking the session and he didn't mind me just staying and observed. After a few classes, I decided to go with Marco. As a new immigrant, language barrier is a problem. He 's patiently teach me from a to z. Making sure I understand everything. Although, I knew some of the basic of the guitar. I was surprisingly I could learn how to read music. Be able to improvise with him during lesson. You're not just learning how to play song/guitar. You learn music theory all in a packet. I still remember one day I was playing in the local shop in HK, people was whispering this guy is good. This is a good memory that I have until now.

I was a student of Marco's for about two-almost three years, and his excitement, love, desire, wisdom and passion for music and teaching is something that can't be described in words. Marco is a teacher that likes to have fun with whatever it is he may be teaching, but he is also very serious about it to make sure his students learn what they want in the best way possible to them. He will encourage his students if they need it and congratulate you every time you complete whatever it is you may have learned from him. I mostly learned techniques/songs from artist's such as Randy Rhoads, Angus Young, and much more from Marco. He will not let you down. He won't give up on you. I would gladly learn from him any time /any chance I'd get.

Marco has been teaching my son how to play the guitar since 2008. I feel that we were blessed having Marco as my son's first teacher. He really understood him and I was brought to tears at his very first recital when I was amazed how much he had learned in just a short few months. He is a senior in HS now and he has a love for the guitar and a passion to learn new music on his own.
Marco is an exceptional teacher who is very patient and understands his students and listens to their needs. He is extremely talented and anyone would be very lucky to have him as their music instructor. I recommend him highly. He is the best!

Billy N. Brooklyn, NY

I've been teaching 20 years. Classical Guitar technique is the foundation for most fingerpicking styles. Exploring the repertoire of Bach, the classic guitar composers - Sor, Guliani, Carcassi and learning how to arrange melodies for the guitar even if not written for guitar are some of the goals when I teach this style. My specialty is Brazilian Guitar and I have available vast repertoire of guitar music for the "Classical Guitar" plus I've explored the works of Piazolla and Leo Brouwer to name 2 guitarists. For Beginners we begin with 2 fingers, basic reading, getting a feel for your instrument, all made fun through the use of melodic material from various sources, sometimes pop tunes chosen by the student

I cannot recommend Billy enough. I studied jazz improvisation with Billy for three years, and later returned to study Brazilian guitar and Piedmont-style finger picking with him. I had been playing for more than twenty years when I started studying with him and he not only helped me improve my playing technically and creatively (on electric and nylon stringed guitars) but also expanded my knowledge of theory and helped me develop new approaches to composing and arranging. I am still working with the material he gave me and take lessons from him whenever my schedule allows.

I took Brazilian guitar lessons from Billy for several years. His method focuses on absorbing the many rhythms of Brazil and translating them from percussion instruments to the guitar. Much of his effort is devoted on achieving the elusive Brazilian swing, which non Brazilians need to learn. Billy is excellent in breaking down the rhythms and explaining them. He even has a book out on his method. He covers various Brazilian genres: choro, bossa nova, samba, baiao and more.
Billy also is an accomplished jazz, classical and flamenco guitarist with a thorough understanding of harmony and improvisation. He is very patient and has years of teaching and performance experience. You will be lucky to study with him!

I took guitar lessons from Billy for over 10 years. He is an outstanding teacher who is challenging but at the same time very patient. We managed to go through a very extensive repertoire of pieces ranging from the many Brazilian styles to Latin music and Flamenco. Not only is he a skilled and talented performer but his love and enthusiasm for teaching coupled with his extensive knowledge makes him the perfect choice for an instructor. For many years I took lessons at home with Billy but due to my hectic schedule we switched to Skype lessons. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the quality of the lessons was not affected in any way.
Brendon R. Brooklyn, NY

We'll focus on the fundamentals of good right- and left-hand technique through a mix of pieces and etudes. You'll learn to read standard notation, but my focus is on getting you actually playing music. We'll also talk about issues of muscle tension and musicality.

About Brendon

I am a composer, guitarist, and recent transplant to Brooklyn from New Haven, where I just finished an M.M. in Composition at the Yale School of Music. I have taught extensively for the past five years in a variety of settings, including teaching guitar, musicianship, and running rock bands in public elementary and high schools in San Francisco and New Haven, teaching private composition lessons and working as a teaching assistant for electronic music courses at Yale, and teaching in several music schools and my own private guitar studio in San Francisco. In addition to my teaching work, I've maintained a busy schedule as a composer, guitarist in both chamber ensembles and experimental rock bands, and organizer. I perform regularly with such groups as Bang on a Can, Dither Quartet, ...

Stelios M. Brooklyn, NY

During the past 13 years I've been very fortunate to work with over 150 children and adolescents, of ages 5-18, and adults, up to 81 years old. This experience has allowed plenty of time to work with complete beginners as well as advanced students and groups of various ages. I've taught mostly one on one private lessons but during the past 5 years I have been coaching student bands as well as teaching theory & ear training to small groups. I am proud to say I have successfully prepared students for college auditions, taught children of professional musicians and have led numerous student ensembles in performance.

About Stelios

If you are passionate about the guitar & music in general we will get along real well. Whether your interest lies in the electric or classical guitar I can offer a structured program of study based on my experience studying under some of the leading artists of both musical worlds.

After completing Classical Guitar studies & a Musicology degree I moved to Boston to study with some of Jazz's greatest musicians and pedagogues.

I believe in structuring the course of study and have seen that setting goals makes a huge difference & therefore there are opportunities for student recitals and/or recording sessions several times throughout the year.

While in Boston I was a faculty member of the South Shore Conservatory from 2008-2010. In NYC along with my a ...

Guitar teachers are a dime a dozen.

Stelios is one in a million.

Next to every review of a teacher you'll see
a rating of 1-to-5 stars. For me Stelios gets a 10.

I'm always sorry when my lesson with him ends.
Each time he impresses me more. And each
time I feel I've improved. He's got me playing
classical pieces I never thought I could play.
I'm amazed at how much he knows and how
beautifully he plays. And any style.

What a talent. What s nice guy. And what
a teacher.

If he's got slot open I recommend you grab it.

You won't find better.
