Alaina A. New York, NY

About Alaina

I currently play trombone with the West Point Concert Band and am also an active freelance trombonist and euphoniumist in the New York, tri-state area. On any given day I could be performing various genres of music including orchestral, jazz, chamber, rock, funk and hip-hop/R&B. My career has led me to perform with various ensembles in prestigious halls around the country such as Carnegie Hall, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA. Working as a musician has also given me the opportunity to travel the world as a performer. Most recently I went on tour throughout China with the Manhattan Symphonie this past December.
In addition to my career as a performer, I am an active educator. I teach private lessons as well as conducting master classes for groups in schools. In the past ...

I had never held a trombone in my hands before I started taking lessons with Alaina, but just after 3 one-hour lessons I can already play some simple tunes, which makes me very happy.

Alaina is very humble, sweet and, what's most important - very clear with instructions.

I highly recommend her as a teacher.

I've known Christian for a few years. We went to school together and have done a decent amount of playing together. He's very professional, talented, and knows what he's doing. Hes a top rated teacher and player. Anyone studying with him will learn a lot from him. Very highly recommended.

My 11 year-old son is taking beginner tuba lessons with Christian. He was getting very frustrated in band but even after just a few lessons has improved significantly and is much more confident during band practice. Christian has shown a lot of patience with him and encourages him to progress rather than hang out and play what he is already comfortable with.

And as a mom, I LOVE Skype lessons. I was a little worried that the lack of 'hands-on' could be an issue but it is not at all. We started with just 5 lessons, but I anticipate many more:)

I had my first lesson on Saturday the 13th, I was in a lot of doubt about taking lessons on line. I was not setup for it all the way my lab top was not putting out no sound. I was saying to myself here we go half of my lesson spent on fixing mechanical problems, but that was not the case. Christian figured it out with no problem and before you knew it I was into my first lesson. Christian was great we went over some different things and I was playing again. It felt really good to be playing notes with someone there to critique your performance good or bad. My goa is to get better each week. Thanks Christain

Jim T. New York, NY

There is nothing quite like the power of playing a brass instrument. I am a French Horn Player, but the process of helping students develop tone control, embouchure flexibility, pitch accuracy, breath support, technical facility, and a rich understanding of the standard repertoire cuts across each of the brass instruments. I have been teaching brass players privately and in the ensemble setting since 2000 and prize the opportunity to build my students' all-around musical confidence.

About Jim

JIm T. earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Music Education and composition from the University of Michigan in 2001 and 2008. He taught high school and elementary school band, jazz band, glee club, beginning music theory, and AP/IB music theory at Detroit Country Day School 2002-2014. Jim Has worked as a freelance Music Director for educational, community, and professional theatre productions since 2002 (70+ shows) while also freelancing as a french horn player and rock pianist. He worked as a church choir director 2004-2010. An active composer, Jim has published several works for band and small ensembles and his original musical, "Justice in Dusty Junction" will be available through Eldridge publishing (Fall 2014). With a blend of humor, patience, insistence on excellence, ...

Christopher P. Brooklyn, NY

While teaching at KP High I had a few students who wished to double on tuba or euphonium like myself. Tuba is a very important instrument as it makes up the foundation of any wind ensemble, orchestra, or dixie land band.
Just like my trombone lessons, we will focus on developing areas such as sound quality, range, technique, reading, improvisation, and playing in different genres.
Whether music is your student's thing or they just want to expand their horizons and get involved, I believe it can be for anyone with the right mindset.

About Christopher

My name is Chris P. and I am a graduate from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor's in Film Scoring. I have been playing trombone for 13 years, tuba for 7, and have been composing and arranging music since my early high school years. I have had the privilege of playing with and writing for many different artists and ensembles with genres from classical and jazz to funk and salsa.

In October 2012 I began teaching trombone/low brass and music theory at the King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham MA to students grades 4-12. Some of my former students have entered into competitions and won awards/chairs due to their efforts and understanding of the techniques and skills I have taught them. There are few feelings as rewarding as hearing one's student develop and progress ...
