I have been teaching individual and group lessons for 12+ years. Many of my students have won trophies at the Granquist music competition and also play in local youth orchestras. My own youth string ensemble plays publicly at many popular local venues several times a year. I enjoy exposing my students to the finer points of being a professional musician such as the camaraderie, team work, creativity (creating harmonies, tailoring arrangements to fit student’s level) and of course, stage presence. I am very proud of my students. It is so gratifying to see their confidence build with each new skill they master.

Learning to play music can change your life. It is a marvelous way to develop creativity, coordination, intellectual abilities, and self-esteem. Learning to play a stringed instrument is particularly satisfying since violin and viola players can perform in so many different musical styles.

I started violin at age eight, and I've been playing music ever since. Youth orchestras and strings camps segued into guitar ensembles and pop groups. I started teaching guitar over seven years ago, and violin shortly thereafter. I studied ethnomusicology at the University of Chicago, specializing in American popular music in the 20th century. I am also a performing and recording artist, with over ten records and several national tours under my belt. I can offer my extensive experience, unique musical insight, and personalized lesson plans to help you achieve your musical dreams.

Anna is a horn, trumpet, and violin player living and working in Chicago. She was trained starting at the age of 5 in the Suzuki Violin method, and began horn studies at the age of 10. Anna received her Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence University and a Master of Music degree from DePaul University, both in Horn Performance.

A versatile musician, Anna fiddles and plays trumpet with the Barehand Jugband, a professional band that plays shows and private events around Chicago and beyond. The band is the winner of the 2011 National Battle of the Jug Bands, held in Minneapolis, MN. Anna is a freelance classical horn player, appearing frequently with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago as well as the Quad City Symphony, Oistrach Symphony, and Oconomowoc Chamber Orchestra. She also performs occasionally as the singer, violinist, and horn player for a jazz trio, as well as filling out a Motown cover band in the horn section several times each year.

I have been an active performer in both the operatic and concert repertory. In the past few years, I have been a soloist at Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Theater, in the Toledo Orchestra’s Christmas concert, and at Chicago’s Ravinia Festival. I originated the role of Dari in Lookinglass Theater at Ravinia’s production of SitaRam. Recent opera credits include Dorabella in Così Fan Tutte and Mme Lidoine in Dialogues des Carmélites, as well as Beppe (L'Amico Fritz) in 2005 in Italy. She has also performed scenes from L’Elisir D’Amore (Adina), The Rape of Lucretia (Female Chorus), Der Freischütz (Agathe), Die Fledermaus (Rosalinde), Madama Butterfly (title role), Arabella (title role), Suor Angelica (title role), Don Giovanni (Donna Anna, Donna Elvira), and Medea (Glauce). Violinist Jennifer L. made a debut at age 8 the Seoul New Philharmonic Orchestra at the Seoul Arts Center in Seoul, South Korea. At the same year, she was accepted into preparatory school for gifted students at the Korea National University of the Arts. Since then, Jennifer performed recitals at Yon Sei Centennial Memorial Hall, TBC Center for the Performing Arts, Kim-Cheon and Gu-Mi Arts Centers in Korea. When she moved to the United States, she was the winner of New Trier Concerto Competition in 2008 and performed with New Trier Symphony Orchestra. She won Honorable Mention in Alex and Buono International String Competition and the winner of North Shore Scholarship Foundation in 2011. Elizabeth has taught violin and viola for twenty years. She has a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from DePaul University School of Music. Her teachers have been among the best in the world. She has been a member of orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and has performed solos throughout the United States and abroad. Teaching is one of her greatest passions, and she welcomes the opportunity to work with all ages and levels of musical background.

I recently graduated from Illinois State University as a double major in Music Education and Violin Performance this past December. Currently I am a substitute teacher for Maine Township District 207 and I private lesson instructor. I have played with many orchestras and groups including; the Classical Symphony Orchestra, Protege Philharmonic, Muscatine Symphony Orchestra, Peoria Symphony Orchestra, Illinois State University Symphony Orchestra, Illinois State University Chamber Orchestra, Northwestern University Community Orchestra, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and many smaller ensembles.
