I am a graduate of the University of Miami Studio Music & Jazz school with over 20 years of professional experience. I have toured internationally and have played in many diverse musical arenas. The past 16 years of my music career have been spent in the Bay area playing professionally and teaching privately.

My specialties are in jazz improvisation and music theory. My students range in age from 4 to 60, most being between the ages of 9 and 16. Many of my students attend the Urban School and School of the Arts here in San Francisco. Most of my students are at the top of their class in band and music theory studies and have made the San Francisco All-City Orchestra.

Specific credentials and references are available upon request. All levels welcome, serious students only.

My 11-year-old daughter took lessons from Joe last year. She had never had a lesson before, and didn't even know how to read music. Joe is so patient and friendly, and let me stay through the first lesson to make sure she wasn't too nervous. We opted to go to him because first of all, it's cheaper, and second of all, I don't think my neighbors are as understanding about the noise as his are!

He also has a piano, which came in handy! My daughter started to look forward to it every week, and she progressed faster than we thought. Highly recommend!

About Vanessa

I'd love to have a few more students to build my studio in the Bay Area! I currently play Alto Saxophone with the San Francisco Wind Ensemble. I sing and conduct choir at church, and play clarinet with ensembles from time to time. I have my Bachelors in Music Education and I've taught at both the middle school and high school levels. I currently have saxophone, flute, and clarinet students and am looking for more!

I studied Saxophone at BYU with Dr. Ray Smith, who is a pupil of Eugene Rousseau, arguably the best classical saxophonist of our time. And I played in countless large and small ensembles there. I know I can be a great music teacher for you, focusing on the basics and making sure proper technique and musicality is always addressed. I strive to help each individual ...
