Music has always been a part of my life, started by playing duets with my mother as a young child. I started piano at age 7, and was taking lessons from the dean of music at the University of Portland at the age of 13. I continued my studies in Europe where I met and married my French husband, who is also an author/composer. We have been writing music and performing in Europe, S. E. Asia and the U.S. for over 30 years.
First and foremost, I am a teacher, and have experience with teaching students of many different learning styles, including those with learning disabilities. My sense of humor is a big part of my teaching, and we have FUN learning! I am a creative, adaptable teacher who works with the student for success!

I started learning piano as a child, but it was in high school that I realized I really wanted to pursue playing keyboards, because it allowed me a way to express myself. I was hooked. Later on I attended Mt. Hood Community College, played keyboards and sang in choirs and vocal jazz. After graduating on the President's List with an Associates Degree in Special Studies Music, I directed the college Gospel Ensemble for two years before working full-time at a large local church, where I was a Music Director, Worship Leader, and keyboard player. In addition to vocal and keyboard work, I enjoyed directing large and small choirs and ensembles, band directing, orchestra conducting, and arranging many styles of music. It is exciting to experience what can happen when people work together musically--the whole becomes even greater than the sum of the parts!

I started learning the piano when I was in the first grade. When I started fourth grade, I started learning the trumpet. I continued both instruments through high school and loved music! It gave me a way to express myself. I performed with jazz band, wind ensemble and orchestra with both instruments. I kept performing through college and earned my Bachelor of Music Education. After college, I taught middle school band, high school band, and also private piano and trumpet lessons. I've recently moved to Happy Valley, Oregon and I'm excited to share my love of music with you!

Sue L., violinist, pianist, composer, working musician and teacher, graduated from Portland State University in 2006 with a Bachelors degree in music. In 1996 she won two Medals of Distinction from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, London, England for violin performance and music theory. Also, in 2001 she received a Merit Award from the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music, London, England for viola performance. Sue has performed in musical pit orchestras, string quartets, the Vancouver Symphony, and rock, jazz and blue grass bands in the Vancouver, Portland Metro area. Sue plays all the stringed instruments and piano in various venues.

Hi, I'm Hilary. I am a classically trained opera/classical singer who studied at Trinity College of Music in London. I have a Bachelors in Music Performance and a certification in vocal teaching from the LTCL (Trinity Guildhall Board of Music) I have experience both singing and teaching many types and styles of music. I have been performing internationally for the last 7 years and enjoy diving in wherever I can. I have experience not only as a performer/teacher but also in directing, producing, coaching, and designing shows/concerts.

I specialize in rock, singer songwriter, experimental, electronic, and popular music; with a B.A. in music and a master's degree in education (secondary language arts). My background in music theory has aided me over the years in my passion for song writing and recording. I'm a passionate, fun-loving guitarist that specializes in jazz and funk, but I enjoy working with all genres, depending on what YOU - the student - wants! Music is an exciting adventure that I want to share that with all students and music lovers alike, be it through one-on-one-lessons, impromptu jam sessions, or performances.I received my degree in music performance from Knox College in Galesburg, IL, where I performed with various groups and discovered the joys of teaching. Nick S. has been a professional drummer/teacher for the last 40 years.
My musical roots are in New York City where I grew up and it is in NYC that I played and studied with Stanley Krel, principal percussionist with the New York Philharmonic. I worked as an on-call drummer for the William Morris Agency. I received my bachelor of music degree in Jazz Studies at NYU.

When I moved to San Francisco in 1975, I was playing with the Pickle Family Circus Jazz Band as well as other groups and studied with: George Marsh, Richie Goldberg, Anthony Cirone, the principal percussionist for the San Jose Symphony, and the legendary Chuck Brown.
Moving to Portland in 1990, playing with many trios in the Portland Metro area (Andre St James Trio, and Nick S.'s own trio, to name a few).

I am an award-winning composer. I write for solo piano, instrumental ensemble with and without vocals, choir, and orchestra. I've produced produced five CDs of original music and two books of music, one a compilation of piano solos and the other a book of teaching pieces for piano. Big inspirations are nature, spiritual philosophy, and my students.

I teach in Portland, Oregon. I also present workshops around the country for teachers about teaching composition and notation to beginning music students, a method which helps develop creative skills and makes music theory relevant. I also direct "Create Your Own Musical" workshops for children.

I have toured the country, opened up for large acts(Art Alexakis of Everclear, Ron Sexsmith), I currently play in professional symphonies(Columbia and Vancouver Symphony), write music for documentaries and commercials, and am finishing my degree in Percussion Performance at PSU. In addition to this experience, I have studied with drummers Gary Hobbs(Stan Kenton), and Sean Wagner (Cherry Poppin' Daddies"). I have over a decade of experience both performing and teaching piano and bass, in almost every style of music. I have also studied music theory at Binghamton University, and studied jazz theory and performance with Doug Beardsley.

I have a Master’s in Opera Performance from the Boston and New England Conservatories as well as graduating from Vocal Performance programs at Boston University and Western Washington University. I have sung professionally with Boston Lyric Opera, Children’s Theater Companies, churches and synagogue. I love to premier new music and have toured in Athens, Greece. I have worked with small children as a Musikgarten teacher as well as touring artist residency programs which introduce children to music and theater in schools.

My students have had successful auditions for college opera programs and music theater productions They gain a larger vocal range and an easy, natural way of singing whether it is in a rock band or a church choir. Together we find the joy of singing as well as building a singing technique.
