Subjects Taught

Flute, Music Performance, Music Theory, Trumpet

About Me

I am 61 year old and live in St. Clair Shores, Michigan with my wife and four dogs (four right now). I started to play trumpet in our school music program at 10 years of age and haven’t stopped since (except for injuries that prohibited my involvement). Until now I've managed to play and sometimes teach music for enjoyment (my own and of friends and family). I would like to teach via Skype, but have enjoyed being able to teach in students in their homes off and on for 40 years. If you choose me as an instructor I will endeavor to create a personal travelling studio to meet the student’s needs.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always try to tailor make my expectations to the student's ability and motivation. The proficiency only improves with the amount of daily practice. One of my early teachers told us "any body can take an instrument (back and forth to school...)". If a student only practices an hour after the lesson (same day), then they will only see that kind of progress in the month ahead. That same teacher used to practice every day between classes. So it's best to find a place that's not too comfortable (distractions), and as quiet as possible. For me, the dogs cause distractions much of the time. So if a studio isn't possible, find times to play when distractions are minimal. Play as long as possible (but don't hurt your self). More on that when we talk.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Shure KSM32

Mackie 16 channel mixer (with phantom power)
Gallien Kruger Vocal Monitor MV200
3 music stands (one folding)
1 mic stand/boom
Metronomes
Yamaha battery operated keyboard (used as metronome and pitch reference)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Could be same as listed above. I take what I think I will need.

*** Specialties ***
In addition to a lifelong commitment to playing improvisatory music (jazz, most genres), I have had much experience working with "special needs" clients (I used to be a Registered Music Therapist). With that being said, I would prefer to commit to teaching wind instruments (I don't have an "arsenal" of rhythm instruments commonly used in Music Therapy).
