About Me

I've been singing my entire life, and always knew that it was my calling. In middle school I was part of the Alum Rock Jazz Band and went to Stanford for the Stanford Jazz Workshop four times on scholarship, where I learned to improvise and quickly form a bond with my fellow musicians. In high school I found myself deeply rooted in the Drama department and landed myself a role in Grease as Sandy, and as a senior juggled being Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray and night rehearsals as a lead dancer in Children's Musical Theater's rendition of Legally Blonde. I've always loved the spotlight, and although I was only familiar with jazz I decided to burst out of my comfort zone and form an alternative rock band with my classmates, where I learned how to manage and market my band in order to be successful musicians and maintain being a successful student. Recently I've been in several student films and have auditioned for a couple of musicals, as well as having been a part of two bands- one metal band, the other an indie\jazz\rock band. My dream is to become a world renowned singer and performer, but until then I want to help as many other people as I can help reach their goal, whatever that may be.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a very laid-back and easygoing teacher, if the student isn't having fun then they can never truly feel comfortable around you to make the mistakes necessary to grow. I base my lessons off of what the student would like to do, all the while incorporating an emphasis on breathing and proper posture. The student will chose a song and we will work on it together until we both feel that it has been improved to the best of the students ability and we can move on to the next song. I believe that while proper breathing and technique is the foundation of singing, it isn't just knowing the right methods in order to master a song, whether the song be pop, rock, r&b or jazz, emotion and an understanding of the songs lyrics and what it means to them is really what can make that song theirs, so we will discuss every song in detail and find out what it means to the student and how they can incorporate it into the song so that it is a performance and not just practice.

*** Travel Equipment ***
My laptop. I expect my students to have a song prepared to sing.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in the J method and utilizing your lower intercostal muscles to maximize breathing capacities and technique. Breathing is the most important part of singing properly and to your fullest potential, so it is the core of my teaching. For English and Reading, I specialize in analyzing the text so that the student can understand not what is said in plain words but what the author is trying to make them see using rhetorical devices.

Subjects Taught

Acting, English, GRE, Guitar, Language, PSAT, SAT, Shakespearean Acting, Speaking Voice, Theater Acting

About Me

I earned both an MLitt and an MFA from Mary Baldwin College's Graduate Program in Shakespeare and Performance. I directed Hamlet for my MFA project. I directed Macbeth at a local high school in Virginia. I was chosen for a professional internship with the resident troupe at the American Shakespeare Center, during which I played Nym and Gloucester in their 2011 production of Henry V. I have acted in twenty-seven shows. I have directed six. I have studied with Tina Packer (of Shakespeare & Co.), Rob Clare, Walt Jones and Ralph Alan Cohen. I have participated in workshops for Linklater training (with Dave Demke), Feldenkrais technique (with Tamala Bakkensen), and Lucid Body practices (with Fay Simpson). Paul Menzer was a thesis adviser for my MLitt document. The only Shakespeare plays with which I am unfamiliar are The Two Noble Kinsmen and Henry VIII (All Is True) -- both of which, if you want to get technical, were probably collaborations with John Fletcher. If you can find someone in Colorado more qualified to teach Shakespeare as literature or for performance, I would like to meet her/him.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am happy to cater my approach to your needs. I will never use negative reinforcement. Even if you are dreadful, I will only encourage, only point out the positives. Theater is difficult enough without naysayers.

About Me

I have dedicated my life to educating children and adults in many different arenas. I pride myself on be able to identify a person strengths and talents and capitalizing on them, and further helping their confidence in the subject at hand. I have lived a life of helping people fulfill their dreams, and it has brought joy to my life. I received my Masters in History in 1968, and have been teaching since that time, both in regular academics, specific areas of focus, as well as children with behavioral needs.

One of my most prized accomplishments was teaching a blind man how to play the piano. With no experience on the people before this man was able to play simple songs from muscle memory and listening within the two weeks I worked with him. He was able to use this ability to distress himself as well as muster the confidence to fulfill dreams he had in mind before he started playing. This man ended up walking across the United States to raise awareness for people with disabilities.
I have also been published is Clavier Magazine, discussing children’s disabilities and playing the piano. All of my accomplishments are clearly documented and can be furnished upon any request. I hope you agree that I have extensive experience and will be a great motivator and coach to any child or adult I teach.

Corinne D. Denver, CO

Subjects Taught

Acting, Audition Prep, Broadway Singing, Child Acting, Choir, Classical Voice, Country Singing, Ear Training, Gospel Singing, Jazz Voice, Musical Theater, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Singing, Theater Acting, Vocal Training

About Me

Corinne D. specializes in healthy belting for musical theatre, pop, jazz, R&B, gospel and country styles of singing as well as classical and opera. She has been teaching privately since 2006, and spent two years as a student teacher for the Knoxville Children's Choirs, in her home state of Tennessee. Corinne holds a dual Master's in Opera and Musical Theatre Performance from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor's in Voice Performance with a minor in Theatre Performance from Middle Tennessee State University. Her healthy belt technique was developed through years of training in both classical and popular styles of singing with pedagogues such as David Jones, Lauren Sawyer, Anne Kopta, and Dr. Christine Isley-Farmer. Ms. D. spent the summer of 2011 studying opera and German Cabaret singing, as well as performing at the Middle Saxony Theatre in Freiberg, Germany. When studying with Corinne, singers develop classical technique as a foundation and then learn to modify the resonating space to create the desired sound for their style- leading to a popular sound without strain on the vocal cords. A strong performer, Corinne also has thorough training as an actor, and integrates acting into her lessons to turn out not simply singers, but well-rounded performers. Her musical theatre credits include: "Die Dreigroschenoper" (The Threepenny Opera) (Jenny), "Der kleine Horrorladen" (Little Shop of Horrors) (Chiffon), "The Last 5 Years" (Cathy), "Once Upon a Mattress" (Lady Larken), "Anything Goes!" (Erma), "Pippin" (Fastrada), "High School Musical" (Ms. Darbus) and "Nunsense!" (Sister Hubert). Opera credits include: "Vanessa" (Vanessa cover), "Hansel and Gretel" (Witch), "Die Zauberflote" (First Lady and Second Lady), "Suor Angelica" (La Zia Principessa and La Maestra della Novizie), and "Tartuffe" (Elmire). Corinne is also very passionate about working with modern composers and playwrights, and sang in the premiers of the following musicals and operas: "Some-thing from No-thing", "Scarlet Letter... The Musical", "Queen Victoria's Floating Garden of Secrets and Natural Wonders", and "Mayor Moon and the Storytelling Festival" - a children's musical that premiered in the US and then toured in Honduras as part of Middle Tennessee State University's Honduras Project.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons generally consist of 1/2 exercises and technique, and 1/2 repertoire, style and performance. Repertoire is chosen by the student and Corinne together- she will never assign a student a song they hate! Sheet music of repertoire will either be provided by Corinne or purchased by the student (most can be purchased online, downloaded and printed). Corinne generally works with accompaniment tracks for singer repertoire, so students can practice with accompaniment at home, and she can focus on listening to their singing during lessons. These can generally be purchased on Amazon.com and downloaded very cheaply. Corinne provides all singers with high quality Mp3 recordings of each lesson for easy practice of exercises and review.

*** Studio Equipment ***
High quality Mp3 recordings of each lesson included in fee!

*** Travel Equipment ***
Keyboard, high quality digital recorder (Zoom)

*** Specialties ***
Musical Theatre, Opera, Jazz, Pop, Country, Performing, Acting, Theory, Alexander Technique, healthy singing for all ages!
