Arrangement and Composition, Bass Guitar, Composition, Music Performance, Music Theory, Ukulele, Upright Bass
Hi! I'm currently a Music Education Student at CU Boulder specializing in strings. I play bass and gig often in many different ensembles from Jazz combos to rock and experimental electronic groups. I live for music, and I've been teaching since I was a sophomore in high school. I have a deep love for transferring my own passion for music to other people to help enrich their lives, and believe strongly that having music in your life in any way is not only fun but can make life full and grand. I look forward to helping you on your path, no matter how serious or casual you are about it!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide some music materials, tuners, metronomes, amps, cables, and in some instances instruments (e.g. a student practices bass at school and they don't have the income to have one for themselves). However, I generally expect students to have an instrument (or access to one at school) they are taking lessons on, because if they don't they can't practice, and each instrument requires a little familiarity to be able to play well.
*** Specialties ***
Instrumentally I specialize in Jazz, Funk, Rock, Metal, and Classical styles. It is important to understand the components of as many styles as you can so you can broaden your horizons and open up different worlds of music and influence. Being able to play several different ways will bring students, and people, more in touch with who they are and what they like as humans and musicians. It also opens up more performance opportunities!
I have a strong background in Music Theory, and can teach everything from Classical to Jazz Harmony, Counterpoint, and atonal/20th Century styles. I have written several pieces both for popular/Jazz groups and Classical ensembles, and can help with the nuances of arranging pieces, voice leading, orchestration and reading musical notation.
Bongo, Conga Drums, Djembe, Drum, Music Performance, Piano
Hello, my name is Michael W. and I am a professional music instructor. I specialize in drums and percussion but also offer courses for piano, and and music theory.
I've been playing and teaching drums for over 15 years. I offer a wealth of playing and teaching experience for all ages, skill levels, and playing styles. With a variety of learning tools like books, play along CDs, and recording software, students will have access to great equipment for an optimal learning experience.
While I strongly hypothesize development of technique, I place primary importance on self expression in development of personal playing style. As much as painting or sculpture, drumming is an art.
Feel free to contact me any time if you're interested in taking a trial lesson.
Thanks, have a great day!
