About Me

I’m a guitarist, and teacher of the heart.
I love to play with passion, and teaching becomes a joy.

I like to connect with the student, hear what they want with their guitar and music, and help, and encourage them and lead them in that direction.

We all have our own way that we learn best,
and as we dive in to lessons as student and teacher,
I’m keen on their strengths and encourage those.

I like to start out teaching a student their favorite song,
and show them their capable. I mix in theory, as we go, so they learn more naturally.

I have performed professionally for 29 years, and have played across the US as well as a 4 year stay in St. Croix USVI.

About Me

Hi! I'm currently a Music Education Student at CU Boulder specializing in strings. I play bass and gig often in many different ensembles from Jazz combos to rock and experimental electronic groups. I live for music, and I've been teaching since I was a sophomore in high school. I have a deep love for transferring my own passion for music to other people to help enrich their lives, and believe strongly that having music in your life in any way is not only fun but can make life full and grand. I look forward to helping you on your path, no matter how serious or casual you are about it!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide some music materials, tuners, metronomes, amps, cables, and in some instances instruments (e.g. a student practices bass at school and they don't have the income to have one for themselves). However, I generally expect students to have an instrument (or access to one at school) they are taking lessons on, because if they don't they can't practice, and each instrument requires a little familiarity to be able to play well.

*** Specialties ***
Instrumentally I specialize in Jazz, Funk, Rock, Metal, and Classical styles. It is important to understand the components of as many styles as you can so you can broaden your horizons and open up different worlds of music and influence. Being able to play several different ways will bring students, and people, more in touch with who they are and what they like as humans and musicians. It also opens up more performance opportunities!

I have a strong background in Music Theory, and can teach everything from Classical to Jazz Harmony, Counterpoint, and atonal/20th Century styles. I have written several pieces both for popular/Jazz groups and Classical ensembles, and can help with the nuances of arranging pieces, voice leading, orchestration and reading musical notation.
