Ilona has been teaching piano to my 12 year old daughter for a few weeks now but already I can see a dramatic improvement in my daughter's playing! Ilona is a wonderful teacher who is able to not just provide piano playing instruction but also provides instruction on music theory to students to really provide a comprehensive musical education for her students!

Excellent teacher!

As I've worked with Ilona and gotten to know her as my teacher, I realize that she really truly cares that I learn well and learn the proper way. She can be tough and gives me a good amount of work to do, but it's all because she wants me to learn and learn well. If I'm unable to complete an assignment she just laughs and says "Life happens" - she's very understanding. She's very patient and encourages me all the time. I often will make a comment such as "I stink at this" and she'll tell me I'm too hard on myself and piano is a learning experience. Obviously teaching is her calling in life and she's excellent at it! I would recommend her to anyone who wants to learn the art of playing the piano.

Ilona is one of the best teachers I had so far. I have fun with her learning cello.

I learned a lot with her and enjoy playing with her duets on the violin. Because of her I got into Gold Cost Youth Orchestra where I met one of her violin students Sharri. She encouraged me to stay focused on my playing and to perform chamber music with her. Very well organized teacher, I will recommend her for any age.

Firstly, I would like to say Bravo! Bravo to the lady in Boca Raton!

Our daughter has been taking piano lessons since she was 6, and she is now 16. So we are not new to piano teachers and piano lessons. However, from the first day our daughter began this wonderful new training in music, being taught/instructed by Ms. Jamila, we've observed a tremendous leap in her interest, enthusiasm and sheer joy of studying piano. Ms. Jamila exhibits all the qualities that one could ever find in a skilled and devoted teacher of music.

She has assisted our daughter in every way from music language, theory, technique to her insightful instruction. Our daughter is finally receiving the knowledge she needs to zoom her forward as a pianist. As a result, our daughter cannot wait for her next communication or lesson from Ms. Jamila. One session with Ms. Jamila is equivalent to one year with someone else.

Ms. Jamila is Absolutely Amazing! We highly recommend her to everyone.

Thank you Ms. Jamila. Bravo!

Jamila is the real deal! What a breath of fresh air after my previous bad experience. She's hands down the most experienced, sweetest and patient teacher around in this area. I've been taking lessons for 4 weeks with Jamila and already playing Bach and Chopin pieces. Every week I'm looking forward to my lessons and I know that I will go far with her. She makes me feel good about myself and always compliments me. She also sends me articles or anything that can help me to get better. Whether you're an adult like me or a child, she won't disappoint you. Thank you Jamila, so happy you moved down from NYC to Florida!

Truly individualized lessons!

I was very impressed with Jamila's ability to work with a diverse group of learners at different skill levels and her enthusiastic teaching style. Her kind, patient and non-judgmental yet firm manner made me feel at ease from the very beginning and I quickly progressed as a result of her clear and encouraging instructions. As a medical school faculty member who has taught medical students and practicing physicians, I appreciate the skill involved in individualizing instruction to learners of different abilities. What is most striking about Jamila's teaching is the ease with which she communicates with and instills confidence in players of very different age groups and skill levels

Kristin has been one of the best instructors that I've ever had. I started flute lessons with her with a lot of bad habits picked up from an instructor at the school was I was attending. I didn't know that they were bad until Kristin walked me through why they were bad. She helped me break the habits, and since then I've been doing much better. I haven't tripped up as much as I used to, and I really do attribute it to her. Now I just need to practice more. She's very patient, always with a smile on her face, and made me feel very comfortable, whether it was at her home or mine. She has also been very flexible with my schedule.

I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone!

Learning to play classical guitar was a "bucket list " item for a very long time. When I finally got the opportunity through a xmas gift certificate from my kids, I was both excited and apprehensive about the opportunity. Excited about the prospect of finally starting my musical journey but apprehensive about starting to play an instrument later on in life.
In my first class Walter sensed my nervousness and quickly put me at ease by listening to me and exploring my reasons for wanting to learn the guitar. Fast forward the clock about 2 years and I'm still learning and progressing on my musical journey, accompanied along the way by a very talented and patient instructor. Make no mistake about it, learning an instrument has been one of the most difficult challenges I've undertaken. But with Walter's patience and ability to gauge my progress he's been able to keep me challenged and motivated. As long as I continue to grow musically, I feel I've come a long way in fulfilling my bucket list objective and for that I have Walter to thank.

I highly recommend Miss. Olga!

My 10 year old daughter has been playing piano on and off for two and half years, and we started to have lessons with Miss. Olga a month ago. Miss. Olga, who is classically trained, not only keeps a nice balance between theory and performance, but also accommodates my daughter's interests in contemporary music. My daughter just finished learning "Let it go" from Frozen, and has moved on to "Rock around the clock."

Every teacher has a point of view, personal preferences, and methodological bias that may fit one child but may not fit another child as well. Some of the teachers we have previously experienced, demonstrated how a piece of music would sound, then taught how to play it; one teacher taught with finger numbers only, another taught using musical notes. My last teacher taught with finger numbers and notes but unfortunately never ever played any songs for or with my daughter. I have books written with only finger numbers, as a result, my daughter still has hard time reading music. I have other books with names of music notes, but with insufficient fingering instruction which resulted in my daughter developing poor fingering technique. I used to have to go over the songs with my kids after each lesson.

Miss. Olga, on the other hand, demonstrates how the song should sound, then goes over the music line by line helping my daughter to figure out what the notes are, how to finger the notes and then plays the melody along with my daughter 8 octaves higher.

It seems that to Miss. Olga, learning how to play piano is a serious business, a business that the teacher and the student have to run together in order to be successful. Collaborative decision making with a child requires a willingness to listen, negotiate and compromise. As Jessica Turner (music educator) argues music instructors know about teaching music, but when it comes to your child and how s/he learns, we parents are the expert. As an educator myself, I appreciate that Miss. Olga lets me work together with her to ensure the fit and quality of my daughter's musical instruction. I feel fortunate that we have found such a great instructor for my daughter!
Mike B. Pompano Beach, FL

About Mike

I teach all styles of music and all levels of ability

As I look back at my life, I see that music was my constant companion. My passion for music, and more specifically for the guitar, goes back to the time when, as a ten year old I received a guitar for my birthday. The sound of the instrument truly struck a chord in my heart and I learned to respect and love the instrument to the point that I thought of it almost as a companion, as something alive or, more exactly, as something my fingers could make come alive. At first I wanted to play rock and popular music, but eventually I switched to classical. When I entered the realm of classical music, a whole new world opened up for me -- new feelings, new emotions, and new challenges.
My enthusiasm for music continued, and beginning in ...

I really like Mike.

First off - he is SUPER punctual. The one time he was running late I even got a timely text message warning.

Second - he is very good at diagnosing issues and providing the right exercise/coaching.

Third - he is very flexible. I feel him supporting my music choices... not imposing his still or preferences.

And finally - he seems to me (I'm not good enough to judge) VERY skilled as a player... able to deconstruct songs, able to transpose quickly, able to find alternative strumming patterns.

I really feel very good about recommending him.

Mike is a great musician and knows how to translate that to his students. He cares about his students and goes the extra distance. He is patient but knows how to get the most out of his student's ability. I have been taking lessons with Mike for 2 years now and never expected to be as advanced as he has helped me to be. He is a wonderful teacher!!
