My wife and I have been teaching piano lessons in the Kansas City area for more than 15 years. We have studios in our home; she teaches upstairs and I teach downstairs! I am currently accepting new students and welcome the opportunity to see them grow and experience the joy of piano playing.

My full-time job is serving as the minister of music at a local suburban church. I work with all of the vocal and instrumental programs there and direct choirs and orchestra. While some of my piano students are also involved in church music, I also teach students in the entire Kansas City area and we cover every genre: classical, country, pop, rock and Broadway styles. I encourage each pianist to discover his or her own passion for playing!

I began my musical training when I was 5. I started on a small 12 bass accordion and loved it. I moved up to the full size accordions when I was 6 years old and it was as big as I was! I wanted to learn more, so my mom took pity on me and pulled out her alto saxophone for me when I was 8. My love of music grew more with each instrument I learned. With the help of my band teachers in middle school and high school, I studied: Alto, tenor and bass saxophone, clarinet, flute,and piano before I left high school. My band instructor and his wife gave me a wonderful opportunity to play in the Stage band in high school along with a special band during the summer. David picked up the guitar when he moved from his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona in 2001 at the age of 19 and hasn’t looked back since. 7 years and countless hours of practicing, performing and teaching later, David plays at multiple venues in the Kansas City area while teaching from his studio at Guitar Source in Overland Park,, Southland Conservatory in Raymore, and in home tutoring service Mobile Music Teachers. David also teaches and records from his home studio in Raytown, MO where he offers lessons for home schoolers during the daytime hours.

As a guitarist David is motivated primarily by his passion for music. Growing up he was influenced by classical, jazz, and film scores. Since picking up the guitar he has been inspired by guitarists from such diverse backgrounds as Eric Johnson, Robben Ford, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Martin Taylor, and James Taylor, to name a few. I was 3 years old when I started playing the Violin. Since then, I have played a number of different instruments such as the Piano, Organ, Clarinet, Accordion, and Banjo. When I was 6 I started writing music. Since then it has always been my desire to be a conductor and song writer. I attended a private University (Evangel University in Springfield Missouri) and received my B.A. in Music with a Minor in Musical Composition. While at Evangel, I had the wonderful opportunity to enhance my musicianship through academia and professional experience. As such, I became extremely proficient musical theory and performance. I have also received a B.S. in Kinesiology and the Physical Sciences, which has helped me to realize how important music is in my life today. Music is more than just notes, and all my life experiences up to this point have certainly affirmed such a statement.

Experience:
After graduation I taught private piano lessons, elementary music (K-3rd), elementary choir (3-6th grade) and junior high choir for two years at Calvary Baptist Christian School in Watertown, Wisconsin.
After my first child was born, I stopped teaching music classes and choir, but have kept up teaching piano lessons for the last 7 years since quitting teaching full time. I have taught students as young as Kindergarten up to adults and enjoy the unique challenges and abilities that each age group brings.
I am a pianist at my local church and have also been judge for piano competitions at the MidAmerica Association of Christian Schools for the last 6 years.

Born in Sherevport, Louisiana, raised in South Kansas City, Mo, Rick C. has been performing music for over 15 years. When he was younger, Rick used to make mischief guitars out of coffee cans and rubber bands, until his Grandmother bought him a nylon string guitar at age 7. Influenced my local Blues, R&B, and Gospel musicians, Rick try to play anywhere a kid on the south side of Kansas City could. As an adolescent, Rick took lessons from Guitar Master Mike Maynard. After graduating Ruskin High with a 4.0 GPA and music scholarships, Rick expand his education into Avila College and UMKC in Music theory and Jazz Studies. Rick also got his name as a sideman playing with many local and regional Blues, Rnb, and Reggae Acts, such as Az-one, Brian Kennedy (R&B), and Matt Ward and Random Tuesday (Blues). I was born and raised in London England, where I first discovered my love of music. Growing up I studied classical piano for 10 years, and was educated through the Royal Associated Board and Trinity College. Moving to the states I carried my musical passion, and took further instruction in voice, guitar, saxophone and violin. I recently graduated from a pioneering local music school, and have maintained a home teaching studio for several years. I have experience working with students from all ages and musical backgrounds, primarily working on improvisation, theory and composition.

From the time I began musical training at the age of 5, I knew that music making would always be an important part of my life. It became my muse and I followed it all around the world. I have performed in Japan, England, Scotland, Wales, Italy, France, Austria, and the United States.

Heidi is a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She recently finished a Master of Music in Voice Performance at Wichita State University where she studied under Dr. Paul Smith. Heidi received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the prestigious Luther College in 2010 under the tutelage of Dr. Andrew Whitfield. Heidi has performed numerous roles, including Miss Wordsworth (Albert Herring), First Lady (Die Zauberflote), and Adele (cover, Die Fledermaus). Throughout her academic career, Heidi placed multiple times in various NATS competitions. She has also received numerous scholarships and grants, including a Luther College Music Scholarship and a graduate teaching assistantship at WSU. Heidi plans to relocate to Germany in order to continue her pursuit of an operatic career.

I hold my Bachelor's degree in Music from William Jewell College (Liberty, MO); my Master's degree, in Church Music, is from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Kansas City, MO). Although my primary instrument is viola, I have also studied violin, guitar, piano, music theory, and voice. I am classically trained, yet I can also play jazz, fiddle, Celtic, pop/rock, and contemporary Christian music.

I am a college student at William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, studying music performance and music theory and composition. I started teaching guitar four years ago on Ft. Leavenworth, KS. I tailor each lesson to the students personal interest and abilities. Each lesson should be fun and enjoyable. Music is an art form as well as a science, and should always be fun.
