Sure, you can learn about the basics of playing an instrument by going online, but it’s still very important to get individual attention from a private instructor. Our piano student Julie shares how her time with her teacher Jordan M. has helped her make more progress than she ever thought possible…
I’ve made a ton of progress in just 9 weeks of taking piano lessons with Jordan. When I first started, the goal that I set for myself seemed nearly impossible. However, now, in just over 2 months, that goal is almost within my reach. All credit goes to my instructor Jordan. My weekly one-on-one lessons with him have enabled me to go from not being able to read or play a single note to now being able to play a few songs with both hands in such a short amount of time.
Although there are a ton of books and video tutorials out there, there is no method more effective for learning how to play the piano than in person, one-on-one lessons with an instructor. One-one-one lessons are a “hands-on” approach that books and video tutorials simply cannot provide. My lessons are all tailored specifically for me and my learning style. Jordan and I spend more time improving in the areas that I struggle with and less time in the areas that I’m stronger in, which has helped me acquire a more balanced skill set over all.
At the end of each lesson, Jordan earmarks different pages in my piano book that I need to practice before the next lesson. Some pages cover material that doesn’t come easily to me which is why it’s important for me to focus on those areas in between lessons. Other pages cover different exercises to help me become more comfortable and familiar with different notes, counts, and finger placement. All practice material that Jordan assigns are tailored specifically to my current skill status at that time and it’s because of this that I have been able to improve so quickly.
I leave each lesson feeling more confident than before and excited to practice so I can show Jordan the progress I’ve made at the next lesson. Learning piano has become something I really enjoy and look forward to each week.
