My name is Emily Dawson, and I am a 19 year old currently enrolled at Palo Alto College down in San Antonio. Ever since I was a little 5 year old redhead, I always seemed to connect better with animals than with the more complicated vertebrate species we know as people. As I grew up, my mother, seeing my love of animals, encouraged me to look into the wondrous career of the licensed veterinary technician. I jumped to the computer and started my research right away. Page after page flew by as I read the amazing things veterinary technicians get paid to do. The more I read the more smitten I became. I expanded my search to places such as Sea World and the zoos around the nation. Imagine, working with animals such as killer whales, penguins, dolphins and more! Veterinary technicians not only get to work with such amazing animals, but also educate children and adults about the complexity of the animal world.
Ever since then, that has been my dream and my life long goal. The first step to reaching my goal is complete: getting into the Palo Alto College Veterinary Technician Program. Although I have a very long way to go, my next jump in life is to become one of those Veterinary Technicians you see at Sea World. I want to love animals and teach people to love animals as much as I do.
