“Breaon, get your sisters and your brother and go to the car.” I didn’t fully understand what was going on but I did as I was told. Once we all were in the car my mother turned and said to us, “Kids, I don’t know why he did it but your father is dead; he shot himself in the head.” I didn’t know whether to be sad or angry because it was the same person that molested me for years.
I’ve had a few traumatic things happen to me when I was a child that’s why I’ve always found myself wanting to work with abused children. Being the oldest, I didn’t have anyone there to talk to or relate to me. I want them to know that there is someone that cares about them and wants to help them achieve their goals no matter what they have been through. I want to help them make the most out of their lives.
The goals I have for myself is to work hard, always give 120% and never let anyone tell me that you can’t do it. If you work hard, you will be successful. Not only am I doing this for myself but for my family and my son. I plan on doing an internship next semester to have more experience before I start and due to being the first one in my family to go to college, I have a very good support system that is there with me.
