Imagine walking downtown in your favorite city, where you see the past coming to life. There is a passion to learn the heritage of the city, and the citizens are eager to make history for the next generation. The city becomes an ongoing show and tell of its tradition. I want to work at a museum where I am surrounded by that same rich retrospection. Through my work I would bring the history out of the museum and into the community through public, interactive programs. With this I am able to share my love and passion for learning and understanding the past with others. I think it is critical to understand the past in order to appreciate the present and evolve the future.
In order to make this dream a reality, I am currently looking into internships with local historical organizations in my area for the upcoming spring and summer. This is to give me experience in the field before my second year of college. I am then planning on applying to the Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) that would allow me to go to Washington D.C. and get hands on experience as well as build connections with more distinguished museums. Both of these opportunities would prepare me as an applicant to become an intern at the Smithsonian Museum in D.C as well.
