Fishing is my favorite past time activity. World hunger is a soft spot in my heart. It is a dream to have a fishing pond called “Fish for Friends”. The second fish anyone catches goes to feed the hungry. (The second fish because many will want to keep their very first catch.)
People fish for free. Everything is supplied, poles, bait, cleaning and packing. They only pay for what they catch, with the exception of the second fish. That one is a free catch, but kept aside for feeding the hungry in the community.
Weekends we will have a free fish fry for families who are struggling financially. These families help with cooking and cleaning as their way to support the program and show their appreciation. The remaining fish are frozen and given out during the week to those who need additional food.
The program is self-sufficient. Parents are now more motivated to bring their children out to fish. Along with the fish and fun, they receive a sense of reward by leading their family by example and for their service of giving. The families that come to eat have a need met and are shown compassion. Over time, the experience is intended to have a positive impact on their well-being. The fishing pond thrives due to word of mouth. Many get involved. The community is strengthened!
It’s contagious. Other fishing pond owners hear about this and start their own community hunger fight. Now the world is a better place!
