With every beat and every note music is what I enjoy doing most in life. Just listening and creating it gives me so much drive. This passion became more evident to me in the years following high school, teaching me who I was showing me what I could become. It has always been my dream to share my music with the world, but the economic situation of musicians has deterred me from it. To combat this, I’ve chosen to study mechanical engineering in college. With my ultimate goal to still to become a musician, I plan on graduating and acquiring the knowledge to create a class of instruments with the capabilities of harvesting energy.
Musicians use a lot of mechanical energy to create their desired sounds. Unfortunately much is lost to heat, which is why it would be beneficial to implement energy harvesting technology. At the moment the technology does exist but doesn’t produce a lot of electrical energy. The way that I plan on getting around this is by taking current energy harvesting systems and scaling them down to smaller ones with the capabilities of producing the same amount of electrical energy. Having smaller systems that are easy to make will allow for many systems to be created and work together to output more energy. If I could fully realize this kind of technology it would give me the opportunity not only to play music for an audience but to give the gift energy as well.
