What does my degree mean to me? As far as I can remember I have wanted to help others. When avenues opened to me and going to college became more than a dream, I enrolled in an on-line accredited school to get the degrees needed to fulfill my hopes of enriching my life as well as the lives of others.
For the past two years I have been studying to accomplish my goal. I have completed my Associate of Arts in Human Services degree and am looking forward to the completion of my Bachelor in Psychology degree on November 16, 2015.
My children are grown and I am happy to say one of my daughters is enrolled in an online program in order that she realizes her own goals. I hope that I have been an inspiration for her to pursue her dreams as well.
I am a native Staten Islander and have lived here most of my life. Living life where violence was on the corner; drugs around the block and crime in the streets was and still is a way of life; fortunately, not my way of life. I have been involved with family members and friends living a life of domestic violence, drug abuse and crime, which substantially stunted my emotional growth for a long time. No longer do I feel responsible for their actions. As the saying states “I am not my brother’s keeper”.
Furthering my education means so much to not only me, but my children, grandchildren, friends and those I haven’t yet met. I am determined to seek a position where my education and my caring will have a positive effect on the community. I look forward to a wonderful experience as I go forward.
Thank you for listening to my journey and be assured I will fulfill my dream. Great things are happening as I go forward. Look out world here I come.
