One of my biggest aspirations in life is to make people happy; I believe I can do that through physical therapy. Having parents that have had a multitude of surgeries and witnessing their process of rehabilitation myself has significantly affected the way I view physical therapy, and why I undoubtedly believe that as a physical therapist, I can change the world.
There is not much to notice at first: physical therapists observing their patients, offering assistance when it’s needed; tables that have patients and their injured parts wrapped in a massaging pad; more patients signing out after yet another session.
Suddenly, there is a moment of realization that these special human beings are genuinely amazing. The fact that physical therapists can spend hours with injured people, working hard to make them healthy and normal, developing relationships with their patients to make them happy, and sacrificing hours of personal time to ensure this, is awe-inspiring.
So what will I do to reach my goal of becoming a physical therapist, something I have dreamed of being since fifteen? I will work hard throughout my studies to be the best Doctor of Physical Therapy that I can be, and make the small, necessary sacrifices in my own life to ensure that. I will apply what I have witnessed from my experiences with physical therapy to my care for my patients and appreciation for their well being, because I know that in the end, what will ultimately make me happy is making other’s happy.
