I love children more than anything else in the world. They are fun, loud, and interesting creatures that I believe God definitely created to add some light to our lives. If I could earn a living working with kids, there are endless possibilities of what I could do. I could teach in a classroom, be a Sunday school teacher, choir director—the list goes on and on. I think more than anything else though, I want to go to South Africa and work with the Rays of Hope and Hotel Hope organizations. Both are located in Johannesburg, South Africa and work to care for Johannesburg’s and the surrounding townships’ youth. They help kids who will more than likely never meet their fathers, who live in the highest ranked HIV-AIDS country, and some of who are raising their younger siblings. This past summer I had the opportunity to travel to Johannesburg with the Wingate University choir on tour and we volunteered a couple days at these organizations. I would like to move to South Africa to work at one or both organizations. I am currently studying Music Education at Wingate University and I am hoping the observations and student teaching experiences will aid me in preparation for working with children full time. I also plan to work a couple years and pay off my student loans before moving to South Africa.
