If I could earn a living doing what I love most, I would continue serving individuals with special needs. I have worked for an organization that serves adults with intellectual disabilities for nearly four years. My life has been forever changed. I see the world through different eyes. My focus is on helping these people transform their lives into living.

By my small contribution to the world, I believe it can be changed. As I continue to strive in improving ones quality of life by becoming an Occupational Therapist, I will reach my goal. I plan to pursue a higher education by diligently working full time and attending classes part time, as I gradually earn a BS, followed by a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.

I believe that too often, society focuses on the “dis” rather than “ability” when it comes to individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities. I believe that the possibilities for growth are endless and am dedicated to proving that, one person at a time.

It is my sincere hope that by reading this brief essay, along with my letter of recommendation, you too will believe I am worth this scholarship which is of significant need. Thank you for this opportunity.

Regards,
Sandra Dougherty
