What my dream job would be is to explore different cultures and meet people from all over the world while working towards achieving equal representation of women in mass media. Visual media, be it photography or cinematography, is considered one of the most powerful mediums in communications and can be utilized as a means for change, however it’s important to note that women continue to be represented as sexual objects and second-class citizens. Examining history will show that women are catalysts to solving many of the world’s problems because it is those problems that affects us the greatest. When women have babies, they’re subjected to conditions of poverty and our planet’s issue of overpopulation is in direct correlation of outdated cultural practices and policies on birth control. By educating and empowering women we begin the shift towards undoing the damage caused by these world issues.
I have currently embarked on a new journey, alongside my husband, to begin my path to becoming a Cinematographer with a Minor in Women and Gender Studies. I would apply my knowledge of Women & Gender Studies to the medium of film and photography to shift attitudes of how women are represented in media.
Our combined knowledge will provide me with a clear path of WHERE to go to begin shifting this paradigm. In 10 years I envision myself as part of a team with my husband traveling the world, creating films to educate people on such issues, through an educated and anthropological scope.
