When most people think of dream jobs, the big three usually come up: Astronaut, Firefighter, and Doctor. As important and fantastic as those professions are, I want to be a Sustainability Consultant. Someone may think of it as dull or unimportant, but I am the most passionate about the environment and helping people, so why not blend the two? Why not consult with people on how to make their communities stronger, more tightly knit, and healthy? Why not talk with everyone from the homeless woman on the corner to the President and help them understand why the soil is alive or how the water cycle works. My goals are as follows: to receive my bachelors in Sustainability Sciences, while participating in community outreach programs and interning for the Sierra Club as I go. Then, to go on to the Vermont School of Law and earn my degree. I want to use my skills in order to land a consultation job. I can work pro bono for communities to council them on the most sustainable courses of action to help prevent sprawl and boost community connectivity. I can run workshops in disenfranchised areas to help teach things like how to make a roof garden and create a community food garden. Using my skills from law school, I can move into local and then state government positions to create and amend legislation to protect the environment and crack down on polluters. In the end, it will be difficult, but worth it.
