I have always dreamt of becoming a nurse practitioner. When people hear the term nurse practitioner they often assume that the role is the same as any other nurse. To me it’s something much more than ‘just’ a nurse. Although nurses play a role in the assistance to a patient’s case, a practitioner goes beyond the average check-up. I know and have accepted that my responsibilities will be to care for the patients upon their arrival, along with the authority to administer drugs and fluids before their departure. It is said that nurse practitioners are some of the most highly educated people in the nursing profession. My plan is to complete a 4-year degree program in a nursing-related field and obtain my license as a registered nurse. The purpose of the 4 years will be to truly understand the profession and further my education. With much determination I will complete an additional 2 years and earn my Nurse Practitioner degree. After obtaining my degree I plan to work with children that have been unfortunate in the event that they have developed cancer. Waking up each morning and going to a profession that allows the chance to make a difference in someone’s life is amazing. Whether I have given a moment of happiness, a helping hand, or support is an amazing opportunity. A person who isn’t sure what tomorrow may bring them, should be blessed with a nurse that believes tomorrow is an even brighter day.
