Line Camp is an experience that many freshmen have before their first semester at Baylor. I attended Line Camp as a freshman, and I had an amazing time! However, during my first year at Baylor, I didn’t make many friends, I was worried about my major and future, I was suffering from depression, and I was so homesick I was considering transferring schools. Then, for some reason, I applied to be a leader for Line Camp. That summer changed my life. Helping foster a love for Baylor in a group of incoming freshmen reminded me why I fell in love with Baylor in the first place. It was like a reset button had been pressed inside of me, ridding me of all of my anxiety and depression of the past months. I met my current best friend and roommate during that week. So if I could make a living doing what I loved most, it would be working for Baylor’s New Student Programs. I would work to help make experiences like Line Camp as phenomenal as possible for incoming freshmen. The transition into college is so difficult, and I love being able to be a part of easing that transition, part of making them feel like Baylor is home. College is such a formative time, and wasting any of that time feeling isolated or afraid is a shame. I believe that being an influence on young adults, by just loving them, truly can change the world through the upcoming generation.
