What I’ve come to realize over the last few years is that what I love most is helping others learn. Whether it is a lesson in algebra, a difficult rhythm in a piece of music, or any other skill in life, it has proved to be so rewarding for me to teach others. If I could teach and earn a living for it, I know that I would change on however small a scale a part of the future. Education is ultimately preparation for the future and providing knowledge is what would make me so incredibly happy.
As a rather reasonable and attainable dream of mine, I’m already taking steps to make this a reality as I pursue my Mathematics Education degree. I know that it would do way more good than bad for the world to gain another math teacher, and a good one at that. So many young students already have it instilled in their minds that math is boring and stupid. They think, “When am I ever going to need this?” Those mentalities honestly break my heart I hope to break the habit that’s been reinforced through the social norm of hating math or being “uncool” if you like math.
I love math and I love kids and I love teaching; with these three affections, I know that I have the potential and even more to change the lives of students who come my way and to make them love learning as much as I love teaching.
