During the first three years of high school, music was my passion. I wanted to become a professional musician because music was the single area in which I excelled and enjoyed at the same time. Then for some unknown reason, I lost interest in a career in music, but I still play and listen to music obsessively. This was also the time I became interested in jazz and in business, specifically entrepreneurship. Coincidentally, my band director in high school, Mr. Gilboe, also had a business venture in mind, a jazz club where people can watch live jazz bands perform. I wanted to take it step further and make it what people usually associate with the word “club”: music and dancing in one venue. My dream job with be the owner of a jazz club in a partnership with Mr. Gilboe in my hometown of Huntington Beach. Jazz is making a slow comeback to the music scene, and I want to help continue the growth by opening an establishment that would celebrate this quintessential American genre of music. Currently in my home area, there is a significant swing dancing scene, but jazz clubs with both live music and dancing are rare. I want to run a joint that combines my love of jazz with the excitement of entrepreneurship.
