Of all the things I attempt to do in my life, drawing is one that I hold closest to my heart. New worlds with people who I wish to know come from my pen to the paper, and every day is a new day to learn and improve. Many artists try and some succeed at making a change in the world. How could someone like me even attempt to use my art to achieve such a daunting goal? Earning a bachelor’s degree in animation, moving forward as a graphic designer to build a portfolio, finding a studio to work for, all would be key steps in doing so. The end goal is the same for most animators: write and direct your own animated feature, send a message to the people, change the world. I’ll decide on a topic (be it love or acceptance or war and peace) when the time comes and make an animated masterpiece, one that will speak to adults and children alike. However, doesn’t that seem like a selfish goal? A means to elevate my own career? Maybe that isn’t what I want. Maybe I don’t want or need to change the world. To live a happy life, to do something I love to do, that would be enough for me. Maybe that’s selfish too.
